Radicom Research introduced the RW8200 Embedded Serial to WiFi Modules. The board integrates a M3 Cortex host processor, Broadcom’s BCM44362 Wireless Internet Connectivity for Embedded Devices (WICED) and an embedded processor. Samples of RW8200 Embedded WiFi Module are available now. Prices start at $29 each in quantity of 1000 pieces. Bulk discounts are available for higher OEM volume requests.
Texas Instruments introduced the latest SimpleLink Wi-Fi CC3000 module. The TI module features SmartConfig technology, which is a Wi-Fi configuration process that enables multiple in-home devices without displays to connect to a Wi-Fi network via a smartphone or tablet in one easy step. SimpleLink Wi-Fi CC3000 pre-production modules are sampling now. Production modules will be available this quarter. The self-contained module is priced at $9.99 in 1,000-unit quantities.
Microchip Technology released the next generation SMSC JukeBlox Wi-Fi connectivity platform. The product includes the JukeBlox 3.1-AAP Software Development Kit (SDK) and the new CX875 Wi-Fi Network Media Module. Samples of the CX875 with JB3.1-AAP are available now. Production orders will be accepted in December 2012. Production pricing for the CX875 with JB3.1-AAP is $15.50 each (in quantities of 25,000 units per year).
Microchip Technology launched the RN-131 and RN-171 PICtail/PICtail Plus daughter boards. The new modules are based on Roving Networks modules. The Microchip modules use a simple serial interface to connect with any PIC microcontroller. The RN-131 PICtail Daughter Board and RN-171 PICtail Daughter Board are available now. The RN-131 is priced at $44.95 each, and the RN-171 PICtail Daughter Board is priced at $39.95 each.
Microchip Technology introduced their Wi-Fi Comm Demo Board. The new product features a Microchip 32-bit PIC32 microcontroller and a low-power MRF24WB0MA agency-certified, IEEE 802.11, embedded Wi-Fi radio transceiver module. The demo board makes it easy to evaluate and integrate the combination of Microchip’s Wi-Fi solutions and 32-bit MCUs in one compact and cost-effective package. Microchip’s Wi-Fi Comm Demo Board is available now for $49.
WIN Enterprises introduced their PL-80380 network appliance for Internet security applications. The PL-80380 features a Freescale P1015E/P1024E processor, onboard DDR3 memory, two Atheros AR8033/AR8035 GbE Ethernet LAN ports with bypass function, four GbE Switch ports, mini-PCIe slot, a USB 2.0 and console port. The WIN PL-80380 is available in four standard configurations. Customization of the unit is also possible in OEM quantities. the PL-80380 is FCC and CE compliant.
Texas Instruments introduced the OpenLink open source Wi-Fi and Bluetooth daughter card for AM18x evaluation modules (EVMs). The standalone WiLink 6.0 daughter card is a combo wireless connectivity add-on card. It is based on the LS Research TiWi module with Texas Instruments WiLink 6.0 (WL1271) solution. The standalone daughter card is available for $249. The production-ready WiLink 6.0 (WL1271) OpenLink module is bundled in the AM18x Sitara ARM EVM + WL1271 Development Kit, which is priced at $1,150.
Marvell introduced the Avastar 88W8797 802.11n 2×2 dual-band Wi-Fi System-on-Chip (SoC). The Avastar 88W8797 features Wi-Fi Tx beamforming technology, Bluetooth 4.0 low energy capabilities, FM Tx/Rx, and supports high data rates. The Avastar 88W8797 is a multiple input multiple output (MIMO) combination radio with advanced power management designed for handheld products like smartphones and tablets.
e-con Systems announced the e-WiB Wi-Fi and Bluetooth module. The e-WiB is based on the Marvell 88W8688 (Marvell 8688), which features 802.11b/g and Bluetooth class 2.1 EDR. The Wi-Fi Bluetooth add-on module is designed as single antenna for WiFi and Bluetooth. e-WiB features SDIO/SPI interface for Wi-Fi and UART/SDIO interface for Bluetooth. The small size and low profile physical design makes it easy for system design to add wireless connectivity. The e-WiB module is available with Windows CE 6.0 R3 support.
