Microchip Technology introduced the MCP2200 USB-to-UART protocol converter. The MCP2200 is an out-of-the-box solution that makes it easy to add USB connectivity to embedded systems. By connecting the MCP2200 UART interface to any microcontroller UART peripheral, USB connectivity can be added. The MCP2200 includes 8 general-purpose I/O pins that can be controlled by the PC using the Windows-based configuration tool included with the MCP2200. The MCP2200 USB-to-UART protocol converter is available in 20-pin SSOP and SOIC packages for $1.39 each, in 10,000-unit quantities (for both package options). AXIOMTEK announced the eHUB110, which is an industrial-grade powered USB and COM hub with fanless operation. The eHUB110 is capable of connecting up to five USB devices with 480Mbps data transmitting rate and three COM devices for industrial and heavy-load applications. The eHUB110 features a 24V DC power input. Its front-facing LED indicators monitor USB and COM activities.
