Microchip Technology introduced the 8-bit PIC18F87J72 microcontroller (MCU) family. The PIC18F87J72 microcontrollers feature a dual-channel 16-/24-bit Analog Front End (AFE), 64 or 128 KB Flash program memory, 4 KB RAM, LCD driver, hardware Real-Time Clock/Calendar (RTCC), and a Charge-Time Measurement Unit (CTMU). The new Microchip MCU devices are ideal for single-phase, multi-function smart-metering and energy-monitoring applications. The PIC18F87J72 is available now for $3.93 each in 10,000-unit quantities for 64 KB Flash program memory.
Teridian Semiconductor is sampling their new 71M6541x and 71M6xx1 residential smart metering integrated circuits (ICs). The 71M6541x and 71M6xx1 feature digitally isolated current sensors based on their MicroDAA isolation technology. By incorporating isolation technology into the metering solutions, Teridian have overcome traditional barriers associated with the use of resistive shunts in multi-phase applications.
