SYSGO released version 3.4 of their PikeOS real-time operating system. The new RTOS extends SMP functionality, supported multi-core platforms and safety certification capabilities. The PikeOS v3.4 will be available this month.
eSOL has completed prototype development of a real-time OS (RTOS) for many-core processors, tentatively called Many-Core real-time OS (MCOS). According to eSOL, MCOS will be the world’s first commercial RTOS for embedded many-core processors. eSOL’s MCOS is currently in use on the Renesas Electronics RH850-based MPU implemented on FPGAs with 16 hardware threads in four CPU cores (the virtual equivalent of 16 CPUs).
Mentor Graphics unveiled the latest version of their Nucleus Real Time Operating System (RTOS). Nucleus v3 features a certified IPv6 Ready networking stack and security protocols, a variety of wireless communication options (such as Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, and Zigbee), and built-in power management capabilities. Mentor Nucleus Real Time Operating System is ideal for power conscious, battery powered applications.
Real Time Engineers Ltd. launched version 7.0 of FreeRTOS, which is a free real time MCU operating system. The latest version of the open source embedded RTOS includes a new software timer implementation. The timer enables callbacks to be executed in a task context (instead of interrupt context). It does not consume any processing time or generate any run time overhead unless a timer has actually expired. FreeRTOS v7.0 is backward compatible with FreeRTOS V6.x.x.
Wind River announced version 6.9 of VxWorks real-time operating system (RTOS). VxWorks 6.9 features 64-bit computing support (in data and code execution) and improved multi-core processing support in both symmetric multiprocessing (SMP) and asymmetrical multiprocessing (AMP) configurations. VxWorks 6.9 is the first commercial-grade RTOS to fully support 32-bit and 64-bit processing on Intel Architecture. VxWorks 6.9 will be available in March. 64-bit VxWorks RTOS is ideal for telecommunications (such as network infrastructure equipment), industrial and medical applications (like high-definition imagery), and aerospace and defense applications (like highly complex radar, sonar and sensors).
ITTIA DB SQL is now available for the QNX Neutrino Real-time Operating System (RTOS). ITTIA DB SQL is a database for special-purpose systems that require self-contained data management software. A free evaluation of ITTIA DB SQL for the QNX Neutrino RTOS is available now. The evaluation kit contains a complete embedded database library, optional server, support for both on-disk and in-memory data management and SQL tools.
Wind River introduced VxWorks 653 Platform, version 2.3. The latest release of VxWorks 653 features board support packages (BSPs) for the Curtiss-Wright Controls VPX6-185 and the Wind River SBC8641D boards. The RTOS extends hardware support to Intel 32-bit processor architectures, including a BSP for the GE Intelligent Platforms V7768 board. VxWorks 653 Platform now also provides a new power-fail safe DO-178B file system. The real-time operating system for controlling complex, safety-critical ARINC 653 Integrated Modular Avionics (IMA) systems is available now.
AVIX-RT introduced version 3.5 of the AVIX RTOS. The latest version of the AVIX real-time operating system helps engineers take advantage of the energy saving capabilities of the applied microcontroller. AVIX RTOS v3.5 is available for all 16 and 32 bit Microchip Microcontrollers and can be downloaded in a free demo distribution. AVIX is accompanied by a comprehensive user manual and a utility to monitor the status of the AVIX based application from within the Microchip MPLAB development environment.
AdaCore rolled out the GNAT Pro High-Integrity Edition for DO-178B toolset targeting SYSGO’s PikeOS safety-critical real-time operating system (RTOS). PikeOS is an embedded platform where multiple virtual machines can run simultaneously in a secure environment. The Safe and Secure Virtualization (SSV) technology enables multiple operating system APIs, called “Personalities”, to run concurrently on one machine (ie: ARINC-653 application with Linux). GNAT Pro High-Integrity Edition for PikeOS provides ZFP and Ravenscar run-times for both PikeOS Native and APEX (ARINC 653) personalities.
DDC-I will make their Deos safety-critical real-time operating system and OpenArbor development tool suite available for applications using AMCC’s (now AppliedMicro) PowerPC 440 core. Deos and OpenArbor will also be available out of the box for Embedded Planet’s EP440C single-board computer, which provides a development and prototyping environment for applications targeting the PowerPC 440EP processor.
