Microchip Technology introduced the MCP2200 USB-to-UART protocol converter. The MCP2200 is an out-of-the-box solution that makes it easy to add USB connectivity to embedded systems. By connecting the MCP2200 UART interface to any microcontroller UART peripheral, USB connectivity can be added. The MCP2200 includes 8 general-purpose I/O pins that can be controlled by the PC using the Windows-based configuration tool included with the MCP2200. The MCP2200 USB-to-UART protocol converter is available in 20-pin SSOP and SOIC packages for $1.39 each, in 10,000-unit quantities (for both package options). It is also available in a 5 mm x 5 mm QFN package, for $1.50 each, in 10,000-unit quantities.
Radiocrafts introduced the RC2500-RC232 and RC2500HP-RC232 modules. The RC2500-RC232 and RC2500HP-RC232 are multi-channel RF transceivers with embedded protocol. RC2500 is below $10 (USD) in volume. RC2500HP includes a range extension LNA and 100mW PA. The new modules are ideal for M2M communication, sensor, and control networks. Modules and demo kits are available now.
