Texas Instruments announced the universal asynchronous receiver/transmitters (UART) and controller area network lite (CAN-lite) programmable real-time unit (PRU) daughter cards and software. The UART PRU and CAN-lite PRU daughter cards can be used in evaluation with the AM1x Sitara ARM MPUs or as a standalone reference design. The daughter cards snap into the PRU peripheral connection on the AM1x Sitara ARM MPUs evaluation modules. The TI UART daughter card ($72) and the CAN daughter card ($77) are both available now. The production-quality software code for the daughter cards can be downloaded for free.
Summit Microelectronics introduced the SMB109 programmable DC-DC power manager. The Summit SMB109 features multiple DC-DC outputs, digital power management/monitoring, and non-volatile system configuration. The SMB109 is available now in a thermally-enhanced, RoHS-compliant, lead-free 7mm X 7mm, 56-pad QFN. The SMB109 is priced at $3.50 in quantities of 10,000 units. The SMB109 is ideal for powering multi-rail digital chipsets for applications like notebooks, netbooks, tablets, servers, storage, telecom, datacom and multimedia devices.
PMC-Sierra introduced their SynthePHY family of integrated dual channel 6Gb/s SERDES and programmable clock synthesizer solutions optimized for wireless infrastructure radio designs. The SynthePHY devices feature 30 clock outputs that can be programmed over a wide frequency band, ranging from 3MHz to 1.6GHz and meet the phase noise performance required by multi-carrier GSM, WCDMA and LTE systems. The devices are rated for industrial temperature operation (-40 to +85 degrees Celsius). The SynthePHY family includes the PM7501 SynthePHY 6G and PM7520 SyntheCLK devices. The SMB20X family includes the SMB207, 207A, 208, 208A, 209, 209A single- and dual-output integrated DC-DC buck regulators. The SMB20X family combines Summit’s digital programmability with dense integration, ultra-compact size, and cost-effective bill-of-materials (BoM) necessary for mass-market consumer products. The SMB20X family is available in a tiny thermally-enhanced, RoHS-compliant, lead-free 3mm X 3mm, 20-pad QFN. Available now in production quantities, the SMB20X family is priced between $1.00 each for the SMB207 to $1.40 each for the SMB208A/209A respectively in quantities of 10,000 units.

Freescale Semiconductor launched the MSC825x family of programmable digital signal processors (DSPs). Prices start at a suggested resale price of $75 (USD) in quantities of 1,000. Samples are planned for this quarter and production is planned for the third quarter. The MSC825x DSPs are ideal for medical, aerospace, defense, test, and measurement applications.
Cypress Semiconductor launched the CY8C32xxx Programmable Digital PSoC 3 family. The CY8C32xxx Programmable Digital PSoC 3 family is optimized for applications requiring programmable digital peripherals. The CY8C32xxx enables the integration of digital peripherals including PWMs, Timers, Counters, UARTs, glue logic and state machines. The CY8C32xxx family is ideal for various interface and peripheral control applications.
IDT (Integrated Device Technology) introduced the 5P49EE801, 5P49EE802, 5P49EE601, 5P49EE602, and 5P49EE502 VersaClock LP devices. The VersaClock low power devices are available in several package options, including 20-pin and 24-pin QFN. The new timing devices are sampling to qualified customers and range in price from $0.80 to $1.25 for 10,000 units. Evaluation boards are available for qualified customers. The VersaClock low power (LP) devices are programmable clock generators designed to reduce power consumption and optimize board layout in battery-operated consumer applications.
Digi International announced the programmable XBee-PRO ZB ZigBee module for ZigBee application development. The programmable XBee-PRO ZB enables application development without risk because the wireless software is isolated. The XBee-PRO ZB features an 8-bit Freescale SO8 microprocessor and offers an outdoor RF line-of-sight range of up to one mile. Programmable XBee-PRO ZB development kits will be available in April 2010 for $299.
