Freescale QorIQ Advanced Multiprocessing Series

Freescale Semiconductor launched the Advanced Multiprocessing (AMP) series, which is their next-generation QorIQ multicore platform. The AMP series features a multi-threaded 64-bit Power Architecture core, 28nm process technology, up to 24 virtual cores, acceleration engines and improved power management. The T4240 will be the first device in the series. It features hardware accelerators, 12 dual-threaded e6500 cores, and 24 threads to address high-end data plane processing applications.

Freescale Qorivva Microcontroller Families

Freescale Semiconductor introduced the Qorivva microcontroller (MCU) families for automotive applications. The new 55nm Qorivva MCU product families range from simple, low-cost, single-core controllers up to the latest triple- and quad-core variants. The 32-bit Freescale microcontrollers are based on Power Architecture technology. The MCU devices are built using a unique 55 nanometer (nm) non-volatile memory (NVM) process for improved power efficiency and cost effectiveness. The Qorivva MCU families will be available in early 2012.

Emerson Network Power MVME2500 VMEbus Single Board Computer

Emerson Network Power introduced the MVME2500 VMEbus Single Board Computer. The MVME2500 features a dual- or single-core Freescale QorIQ processor (P2020 or P2010), Power Architecture technology, up to 2 GB DDR3 soldered memory, 16 MB SPI boot flash memory, a SDHC socket, 512 KB non-volatile MRAM, SATA port, XMC site, three Gigabit Ethernet ports, USB 2.0 port, abd five serial ports. The GE SBC is ideal for applications with tight thermal constraints in industrial automation, medical, and defense/aerospace.

Freescale QorIQ P5 64-bit Power Architecture Platform

Freescale Semiconductor announced the QorIQ P5 64-bit Power Architecture platform. The P5 platform features the e5500 core and is ideal for high-end control and data plane applications in networking, enterprise storage, security appliance, data center and aerospace/defense markets. The single-core 64-bit P5010 and the dual-core 64-bit P5020 processors will be the first products in the new QorIQ P5 communications platform. Simulated models of the P5020 and P5010 are expected in July 2010. Initial samples are planned for Q4 2010, and qualification is expected in 2H 2011.

Wind River VxWorks DO-178B Platform for Aerospace and Defense Systems

Wind River and Curtiss-Wright Controls Embedded Computing introduced the latest VxWorks DO-178B Platform, which is designed to meet the stringent safety certification requirements of the aerospace and defense industry. The new release of VxWorks DO-178B includes complete DO-178B Level A certification evidence for a reference board support package (BSP) for the SVME/DMV-183 single board computer and additional processor support for Intel Core 2 Duo IA-32 and Power Architecture e600 cores.

AppliedMicro Power Architecture 405 and 460 Low Power Processors

AppliedMicro introduced low-power versions of the Power Architecture 405EX, 405EXr, 460EX, 460EXr, and 460GT microprocessors. The new processors have been optimized for low-power consumption (consume up to 40% less power for a variety of embedded applications). The low-power versions of AppliedMicro’s Power Architecture 405EX, 405EXr, 460EX, 460EXr, and 460GT microprocessors are now available in production quantities.

Applied Micro Circuits Corporation introduced the APM 83290 System on Chip (SoC). According to AMCC, the APM 83290 is the highest performance Power Architecture solution available in bulk CMOS process. The APM 83290 features proprietary PacketPro and MultiEase technologies. The Soc is ideal for wireless infrastructure, enterprise, storage, entertainment, multifunction printer, and communications applications. AppliedMicro’s APM 83290 is available now in sample quantities with production quantities expected in Q1 2010.
