Texas Instruments introduced the TMP006 passive infrared (IR) MEMS temperature sensor. The TMP006 integrates an on-chip MEMS thermopile sensor, signal conditioning, a 16-bit analog-to-digital-converter (ADC), local temperature sensor and voltage references on a single 1.6-mm x 1.6-mm chip. The single-chip digital temperature sensor measures device case temperature using IR technology. The TMP006 is available now with a suggested retail price of $1.50 (1,000-unit quantities). The TI chip is ideal for mobile devices, such as smartphones, tablets and notebooks.
STMicroelectronics introduced the LIS3DH 3-axis digital-output accelerometer. The ST LIS3DH features low power consumption (over 90% lower than other solutions), miniature footprint, and enhanced functionality. The LIS3DH accelerometer is ideal for motion-sensing features and applications in space- and power-constrained consumer devices, such as mobile phones, remotes and game controllers. Volume production is scheduled for early Q3 2010 and the unit price is $0.85 in quantities of 100,000 pieces.
STMicroelectronics introduced the LSM303DLH digital compass module. The LSM303DLH geomagnetic module combines magnetic-field and linear-acceleration sensing with an I²C digital interface in a single package. The LSM303DLH module features high accuracy, small form factor, and low power consumption at a competitive cost. The ST LSM303DLH digital compass is ideal for enhanced electronic compassing in portable consumer applications (such as direction finding, map/display orientation, location-based services and pedestrian dead reckoning).
