Ambarella announced the A7L-A family of automotive camera System on Chip (SoCs) and reference designs. The A7L-A family combines full HD dual-view recording with excellent video quality. It offers excellent image quality for capturing license plates and other details, even in low light conditions. The A7L-A family of SoCs and reference designs are available now.
Ambarella introduced the A7 IP Camera SoC for video surveillance applications. The Ambarella A7 features an ARM CPU, multi-streaming 1080p60 H.264 encoder, up to 500 MHz pixel capture rate (equivalent to 8 Megapixels at 60 frames per second), and power consumption of less than 1.5 Watts. The chip’s 3D motion compensated noise reduction eliminates the motion smearing and ghosting artifacts that are commonly associated with motion adaptive 3D filtering. The Ambarella A7 IP Camera SoC is sampling now.
e-con Systems introduced the e-CAM50_OMAP_GSTIX high definition (HD) camera solution. The 5M pixel HD solution features the OMAP35x-based Gumstix Overo computer-on-module. The e-CAM32_OMAP_GSTIX camera module is based on Omnivision’s OV5642 CMOS image sensor. The e-CAM32_OMAP_GSTIX connects to the 8 bit parallel interface of the OMAP35x processor. The e-CAM50_OMAP_GSTIX for Gumstix Overo COMs is available now. The HD camera solution is ideal for image processing and video encoding applications in devices.

The A7 delivers features 528-MHz ARM11 CPU, full HD 1080p60 or 4Mp30 H.264 video recording, high-speed 500Mpixels/second capture capability, smooth slow-motion replay, high dynamic range (HDR) processing, image stabilization, both DIS and EIS, and rolling shutter correction for CMOS sensors. The A7 can simultaneously encode a full HD stream while encoding a second stream for upload to the Internet or for streaming over WiFi. Axiomtek announced the DSA-142 digital signage platform. The DSA-142 includes a 42-inch full high definition wide TFT LCD with 1920 x 1080 pixel resolution. The embedded system features a pluggable CPU board design, Intel GM45 chipset, and either an Intel Core 2 Duo T9400 2.53 GHz or Intel Celeron M 575 2.0 GHz processor. The DSA-142 is available now. The DSA-132 (31.5″ LCD size) and DSA-146 (46″ LCD size) are also available. Texas Instruments (TI) announced the DM368EUCDK embedded USB camera development kit and DM368ECDK embedded communications development kit. The embedded video development kits feature interactive HD video communications, improved image quality, and intelligent video encoding. The embedded development kits also provide up to a 5 times reduction in encoding bit rate for improved video quality and network bandwidth. The DM368EUCDK is priced at USD $795 and the DM368ECDK is priced at USD $1,195.
Texas Instruments introduced the TMS320DM368 DaVinci video processor. The TI DaVinci TMS320DM368 supports full HD 1080p H.264 encoding. The DM368 is ideal for HD video cameras, real-time digital video recorders (DVRs), HD video communications systems, and digital signage. The TMS320DM368 DaVinci video processor is available for sampling and is priced at USD $29 in 1,000 unit quantities (1ku).
Ambarella introduced the A5s Media Processor for the IP camera and video surveillance. The A5s features HD H.264 multi-streaming, excellent image quality, a flexible ARM11 CPU, and low power. The A5s family is currently shipping, with models targeting IP cameras from SD to HD and beyond. The A5s IP Camera Reference Platform with SDK is available for qualified partners. IP cameras based on Media Processor are expected to be priced below US $150.
Z3 Technology introduced the Z3-DM365-MOD-05 OEM ready module. The Z3-DM365-MOD-05 supports H.264 codec up to 720p at 30 fps (frames per second) encode and stream in applications such as low bandwidth video security, battery powered A/V (audio/video) recorder, embedded solid-state DVR (digital video recorder), video frame/digital signage, industrial applications and high definition (HD) embedded video sub-systems. The module is based on the Texas Instruments (TI) TMS320DM365 DaVinci video processor.
