STMicroelectronics launched the SPEAr300, SPEAr310, SPEAr320, and SPEAr600 embedded microprocessors. The four new SPEAr (Structured Processor Enhanced Architecture) microprocessors combine one or two advanced ARM9 processor cores with memory interfaces, and a large set of IP blocks. ST’s new SPEAr embedded microprocessors are in full production. The single-core models (SPEAr300/310/320) are priced below $7 for mass production quantities. The dual-core SPEAr600 sells below $9 for mass production quantities.
ADLINK Technology introduced the PACwiz programmable automation controller (PAC) solutions for automation applications using the IEC 61131-3 programming standard. With PACwiz, PLC users are able to easily upgrade to a PAC platform without further training as application development can be done in IEC 61131-3 languages, just as with traditional PLCs. PACwiz systems are available now starting at a single-unit list price of $999 for the PACwiz-MXC and $1149 for the PACwiz-DPAC.
DSM Computer announced the Galaxy G1-A control cabinet computer (96M1642-A). The Galaxy G1-A is based on the energy-saving Intel Atom N270 processor with a 1.6 GHz clock frequency and the Intel 82945GSE chipset. The memory can be expanded to maximum 2 GB DDR2 RAM, 533 MHz. The Galaxy G1-A was specially developed for use in plant and machine construction in the industry automation sector. The operational areas range from simple controlling and monitoring through to the complex control of various automation processes for production plants.

NEC Electronics introduced the 78K0/KC2-C (three 48-pin variants) and 78K0/KE2-C (three 64-pin variants) 8-bit All Flash microcontrollers (MCUs). The 78K0/KE2-C and 78K0/KC2-C microcontrollers feature with built-in CEC (consumer electronic control) controller and embedded flash memory. The new MCUs enable interdependent control of digital audio/video (AV) applications such as flat-panel TVs and Blu-ray disc players. NEC Electronics’ new MCUs with on-chip CEC controllers allow the CPU to be powered off during standby mode and speed up CEC and HDMI certification process while reducing power consumption and the need to develop custom software.
congatec introduced a starter kit for APIX technology. The APIX Design Kit consists of a PCI Express add-on card, the appropriate operating system drivers, and a remote display unit with integrated touch-screen. The image data, the coordinates from the touch-screen and the power supply are all transmitted using a normal Ethernet cable with RJ45 connectors. If high quality cables are used, distances of up to 40 meters or more can be covered.
