Kontron introduced the ApexVX multi-mission rugged computer system. The embedded system is ideal for mission-critical applications in airborne systems, mobile military vehicles, precision-guided munitions, electronic warfare, UAVs and C4ISR. First samples of the new Kontron ApexVX multi-mission, rugged computer system are available now. The system can be ordered as a pre-qualified system compliant to relevant MIL and AERO standards such as MIL-STD810 E for shock, vibration, humidity, salt fog and MIL-STD461-E for EMC/RFI.
AMD rolled out their Opteron 6200 and 4200 Series Embedded processors last week. The new AMD Opteron 6200 Series Embedded processor is the world’s first 16-core x86 processor. The AMD Opteron 4200 Series Embedded processor is the world’s lowest power server processor (fewer than 5 watts per core). The new AMD embedded server processors are ideal for high-end embedded systems. Select models are planned to be available for embedded market’s longevity need of seven years.
Datasound Laboratories (DSL) introduced the ICOP-6117-X embedded controller. The small-footprint and low-power x86 controller measures only 80mm x 50mm with a power consumption of less than 320mA @ 5V. The DSL ICOP-6117-X features the 300MHz Vortex86SX CPU, 128MB DDR2 RAM, 10/100Mbps LAN connectivity, serial and USB 2.0 ports, and 16-bit GPIO. The fanless ICOP-6117-X is ideal for embedded systems like handheld computers, portable monitoring systems, medical equipment and battery powered instrumentation.
The Kontron PCI-761 PICMG 1.3 System Host Board (SHB) is a slot card-sized industrial server board. The module features the Intel Pentium and Core i3/i5/i7 processor, Intel Q57 Express chipset, DDR3-1066/1333 SDRAM (up to 8 GByte), PCIe x16 (PEG), PCIe x4 (also configurable as 4 x PCIe x1), four PCI to the backplane, six 300Mbps SATA II (two via the backplane) with RAID (0, 1, 5 and 10) functionality, dual 10/100/1000 Base-T Ethernet, twelve USB 2.0 (4 via the backplane), one parallel and two serial interfaces (1x RS-232/422/485, 1x RS-232), and HD audio codec. The Kontron PICMG 1.3 System Host Board PCI-761 is now available.
GE Intelligent Platforms introduced the SBC312 3U VPX single board computer (SBC). The SBC312 SBC is OpenVPX-compliant. It supports the Freescale QorIQ 8-core P4080 and 4-core P4040 processors. The SBC312 SBC features dual channel DDR3 memory (up to 4 GBytes), two x4 PCI Express Gen2 links, two 1000BaseT ports, two serial ports, two USB 2.0 ports, two SATA ports, up to eight GPIO ports, and a PMC/XMC mezzanine site. The GE SBC312 is designed for demanding space- and weight-constrained environments such as unmanned vehicles.
Signatec introduced the PX1500-2, which is a PCIe-based wideband A/D board. The PX1500-2 captures two synchronized analog channels at sampling rates up to 1.5 GHz, or one channel up to 3 GHz when interleaving the ADC data. The Signatec PX1500-2 features 1 GB on-board memory (configured as a large FIFO) and a PCIe x8 bus. It can continuously sustain long recordings at up to 1.4 GB/s through the PCIe x8 bus (both mechanical and electrical) to PC disk storage without any break in the analog record. Signatec’s PX1500-2 is currently shipping with a 10 week delivery forecast.
Radiocrafts introduced the RC1180-KNX1 compact module. The RC1180-KNX1 board complies with the KNX-RF (Konnex over RF) specification. KNX is the only open international standard for home and building control. The embedded protocol supports KNX-RF 1.1 and KNX Ready, and can be used for unidirectional and bidirectional devices, also in battery operated systems. It conforms to EN 50090 (ISO/IEC 14543-3). KNX is ideal for smart home, building automation, and building management systems. The RC1180-KNX1 module and demo kits are available now.
Pentek introduced the Model 7191 programmable multifrequency clock synthesizer. The Pentek Model 7191 clock synthesizer uses low-noise VCXOs for the fundamental frequency generation. The VCXO output is followed by a clock synchronizer from Texas Instruments to enable synchronization with common frequency reference sources. The user-configurable PMC module is ideal for designers working with A/Ds and D/As. The price of the Model 7191 Multifrequency Programmable Clock Synthesizer is $2,995 USD.
Microchip Technology introduced the Multimedia Expansion Board and enhanced mTouch Cap Touch Evaluation Kit. The Multimedia Expansion Board enables development of highly interactive, graphics-based interfaces with network connectivity. The enhanced mTouch Cap Touch Evaluation Kit adds a new board for implementing capacitive touch sensing with the PIC32. The Multimedia Expansion Board (part # DM320005, $249.99) and the enhanced mTouch Cap Touch Evaluation Kit (part # DM183026-2, $99.95) are both available now.
Texas Instruments (TI) introduced the CC430F513x microcontrollers (MCUs). The CC430F513x microcontrollers combine the MSP430 MCU with the sub-1GHz CC1101 RF transceiver. The CC430F513x devices offer up to 20 MIPS performance and support security options such as an integrated AES hardware module. TI also announced the CC430F61xx series of LCD devices. Production quantities of the CC430F513x MCUs are available for $4.15 (1K units). The CC430F61xx family with integrated LCD will be sampling in May with prices starting at $4.35 (1 K units).
