AMD ASB2 and AM3 Platforms for Embedded Systems

AMD launched the ASB2 and AM3 platform for embedded systems. AMD’s new flexible embedded platforms consist of chipset and graphics solutions along with high-performance CPUs as low as 8W TDP. Embedded system designers working on next-generation products can see immediate benefits commonly associated with industry-standard x86 processors, including streamlined design and development, a large software ecosystem, and fast time-to-market.

ASB2 (BGA) Processor Family

  • HyperTransport technology 3.0 helps boost overall system performance through a dedicated high-speed, low-latency I/O interface
  • ECC memory support for low end SOHO server applications and applications requiring reliable data or minimum down time
  • DirectX 10.1 for graphics, 3D visual effects and dynamic interactivity
  • Unified Video Decoder for dedicated hardware decode and playback of VC-1, and H.264 formats
  • Memory support, integrated low voltage DDR3 memory controller
  • ATI PowerPlay 10 technology

The AMD ASB2 Embedded BGA platform features the AMD Turion II Neo dual-core processors and AMD 785E chipset. The new ASB2 processors offer greater levels of performance and power efficiency over the previous generation ASB1 (BGA) processor family. The processor and chipset solution are packaged in small footprint, lidless packages.

AM3 (Socket) Embedded Client Platform

  • Integrated ATI Radeon HD 4200 graphics with enhanced operating modes
  • HyperTransport technology 3.0 helps boost overall system performance through a dedicated high-speed, low-latency I/O interface
  • DirectX 10.1 for graphics, 3D visual effects and dynamic interactivity

The AM3 embedded system platform features the AMD Athlon II XLT processor, ATI Radeon HD 4200 graphics, and AMD 785E chipset. The 64-bit embedded client platform is is designed for advanced multitasking performance, and power-saving innovations for small, cool, energy-efficient embedded system. The AM3 is ideal for digital signage, casino gaming, industrial automation, test and measurement, imaging, and surveillance applications.
