Direct Insight SwiftModule-OM

The SwiftModule-OM module, from Direct Insight, is based on the Texas Instruments OMAP3530 family of microcontrollers. SwiftModule-OM is a 68 x 35mm 200-pin SODIMM system on module with up to 256MB of DDR333 SDRAM and 1024MB NAND Flash. It features advanced power management for handheld devices, audio, touch, Ethernet, optional 802.11g WiFi and a host of other interfaces such as USB 2.0 and SD Card (provided by the OMAP device). SwiftModule-OM is available now with prices starting at 75€ (1k units).

SwiftModule-OM versions are available populated with different members of the OMAP family to provide both cost-effective and highly featured variants. For development purposes, the SwiftModule-OM plugs into the SwiftLite-OM development system, which is a 9cm square board that can also be customized to provide a complete production solution. SwiftLite-OM features numerous connectors, an 800×480 touch screen, and additional outputs (such as LVDS and HDMI). An expansion connector makes most of the SwiftModule’s connectivity available. The system ships with Windows CE 6.0 as standard.

SwiftModule features rapid boot capability and a user-defined splash-screen. On-module Ethernet, wi-fi, audio, and touch reduce the baseboard requirement in most cases to little more than connectors, while a Flash File System makes the unused area of the large standard NAND device available for data storage, in addition to supported removable storage, including USB stick, SD and CF cards. A large touch screen, directly connected to the OMAP’s on-chip display controller means that the development setup closely emulates the final product, and LVDS and HDMI support allows a remotely display to be easily connected.

In addition to the OMAP3503/15/30 microcontroller, the SwiftModule-OM includes the latest TPS65930 companion device, up to 256MB of 333MHz DDR SDRAM, 256MB NAND Flash, SMSC LAN9220 Ethernet controller, and optional Wi2Wi 802.11b/g WiFi. Supported interfaces include USB Host and OTG, Ethernet, RS-232, camera, audio, TDM, SPI, I2C, 1-Wire, SD Card, PWM, touch screen, keypad, and JTAG.
