Cypress FleXO Programmable Clock Generator

Posted by Ken Cheung in Components on Monday, June 15, 2009

Cypress Semiconductor launched the FleXO family of programmable high-performance clock generators. The flexible clocks can be instantly programmed in the factory or field to any frequency up to 650 MHz. The programmability of the FleXO family speeds development and simplifies testing for improved manufacturing quality. The FleXO clocks have a phase jitter as low as 0.6 ps. FleXO clocks are currently in production in multiple configurations. They are available in 8-pin TSSOP, 16-pin TSSOP, and 6-pin LCC packages.

Cypress FleXO Clock Generator Highlights

  • RMS Phase Jitter (12 kHz to 20 MHz): as low as 0.6 ps typical
  • Programmable frequency from 50 MHz to 690 MHz
  • Tunable frequency margining with 0.2 ppm precision
  • Differential LVPECL and LVDS outputs

FleXO clock generators feature programmable Phase Locked-Loop technology, which can be used in integer or Frac-N mode to synthesize and tightly control the frequency of ultra-low noise clock signals using a standard low-cost crystal input. The solutions provide a strong alternative to expensive and inflexible SAW oscillators and overtone crystal oscillators. The family is ideal for switches and routers, 3G wireless base stations, Fiber-To-The-Home (FTTH) hubs, enterprise hard-disk drives, test equipment, professional video equipment, and any system requiring high-performance clocks.
