STMicroelectronics LIS302DLH Three Axis Digital MEMS Accelerometer

Posted by Ken Cheung in Components on Thursday, June 11, 2009

The LIS302DLH, from STMicroelectronics, is a high-performance high-stability 16-bit MEMS accelerometer. It is only 0.75mm high and shares the 3 x 5mm footprint of other devices in ST’s Piccolo MEMS family for use in ultra-space-saving product designs. According to STMicroelectronics, the LIS302DLH is the world’s thinnest three-axis digital MEMS accelerometer. ST’s LIS302DLH linear accelerometer is ideal for motion sensing, orientation awareness, free-fall detection, and vibration monitoring. Samples are available immediately, and mass production is scheduled for early Q3 2009 at $1.35 for orders over 10,000 pieces.

ST LIS302DLH Linear Accelerometer Features

  • Wide supply voltage, 2.16 V to 3.6 V
  • Low voltage compatible IOs, 1.8 V
  • Ultra thickness 0.8 mm
  • Ultra low-power mode consumption down to 10 µA
  • ±2g/±4g/±8g dynamically selectable full-scale
  • I2C/SPI digital output interface
  • 16 bit data output
  • 2 independent programmable interrupt generators for free-fall and motion detection
  • Sleep to wake-up function
  • 6D orientation detection
  • Embedded self-test
  • 10000 g high shock survivability
  • ECOPACK RoHS and gGreenh compliant

Low-voltage operation and low power consumption make the LIS302DLH ideal for battery-powered products. The device has a power-saving shutdown mode, and wakes automatically when motion is detected. The integrated digital circuitry outputs acceleration measurements up to +/-8g in the industry-standard I2C/SPI serial format, allowing direct connection to the system processor with no external components required.
