Power.org Publishes Embedded Power Architecture Platform Requirements
Power.org announced it has released the Power.org[tm] Standard for Embedded Power Architecture Platform Requirements (ePAPR), which speeds software porting and reduces development costs for operating system and platform designers. By defining clear interfaces between embedded software components such as boot firmware, bootloaders, operating systems, and hypervisors, the ePAPR specification enables system designers to create standardized platforms.

LG Electronics Creates First LTE Handset Modem Chip
LG Electronics (LG) announced that it has independently developed the first handset (user equipment) modem chip based on 3GPP Long Term Evolution (LTE) technology standards. The modem chip can theoretically support wireless download speeds of 100Mbps (megabits per second) and upload speeds of 50Mbps. This represents a significant step toward creating a market-ready 4G phone.

Microchip Unveils Serial EEPROMs with EUI-48, EUI-64 MAC Addresses
Microchip Technology Inc. introduced a family of serial EEPROM devices with built-in EUI-48[tm] and EUI-64[tm] compatible MAC addresses. Designed to work on standard busses, such as SPI, I2C[tm] and the UNI/O® bus, the devices provide easy and inexpensive access to MAC addresses, and feature up to 1.5 Kb of EEPROM that can be used for storing configuration and user settings, or as a scratch-pad area for buffering small amounts of data.

Strategic Test Rolls Out UF2e-4032, UF2e-4031 50 Digitizer Cards
Strategic Test Corp. has announced two new 50 MS/s 14-bit digitizer cards for PCI Express. The UF2e-4032 has 4 analog inputs and the UF2e-4031 has 2 input channels. Unique features include the options for dual-timebase sampling, synchronous digital inputs, asynchronous digital I/O and the possibility to synchronize hundreds of channels.

GE Fanuc Announces NETernity 6U VMEbus Gigabit Ethernet Switches
GE Fanuc Intelligent Platforms announced the NETernity[tm] RM980RC and RM982RC 6U VMEbus Gigabit Ethernet switches. The two new products respond to the rapidly growing demand for high performance, high reliability switching and high port density. They extend the breadth and depth of NETernity Ethernet switches, providing engineers with more choice and flexibility as systems continue to rely on more Gigabit Ethernet communications in their architecture.

Actel Introduces Libero Integrated Design Environment Version 8.5
Actel Corporation (Nasdaq: ACTL) announced the availability of Libero(R) Integrated Design Environment (IDE) version 8.5. Actel’s comprehensive suite of software design tools extends support for the recently announced nano versions of IGLOO(R) and ProASIC(R)3 field programmable gate arrays (FPGAs). Libero IDE version 8.5 also introduces support for instantiation and configuration of embedded mathblocks for use in Actel’s new radiation tolerant RTAX-DSP family.

Khronos Group Ratifies OpenCL 1.0 Specification
The Khronos[tm] Group announced the ratification and public release of the OpenCL[tm] 1.0 specification, the first open, royalty-free standard for cross-platform, parallel programming of modern processors found in personal computers, servers and handheld/embedded devices. OpenCL (Open Computing Language) greatly improves speed and responsiveness for a wide spectrum of applications in numerous market categories from gaming and entertainment to scientific and medical software.

Khronos Group Releases OpenVG 1.1 Specification
The Khronos[tm] Group announced that it has ratified and publicly released the OpenVG[tm] 1.1 specification, a new version of the royalty-free, open standard for low-level 2D vector graphics acceleration. OpenVG 1.1 adds a Glyph API for hardware accelerated text rendering, full acceleration support for Adobe® Flash® and Flash Lite 3 technologies and multi-sampled anti-aliasing.
