Intel Announces Advancement in Silicon Photonics
Intel researchers have made the next advance in the field of Silicon Photonics by achieving world-record performance using a silicon-based Avalanche Photodetector (APD) that could lower costs and improve performance as compared to commercially available optical devices. The research results were published today in Nature Photonics.

NEC Electronics Samples 22 New Flash-Memory-Embedded Microcontrollers
NEC Electronics announced it has begun sample shipments this month of 22 new flash-memory-embedded microcontrollers – twelve 8-bit models and ten 16-bit models — with the lowest level of power consumption in the industry as part of the company’s effort to strengthen its microcomputer business. Using these microcontrollers can reduce the number of parts necessary for building systems because they do not require the use of peripherals, contributed by the enhanced analog features like A/D converters.

Samsung Electronics Co., Ltd. announced that it has expanded its industry-leading portfolio of CMOS image sensors to include a new high-definition 1/4-inch, 1.2 Megapixel (Mp) system-on-chip (SoC) imager, the S5K4AW, for notebook and desktop computers.
