picoChip Software Reference Designs Feature Femtocell Sniffer
picoChip has announced three software reference designs that provide the first integrated network listen (or ‘sniffer’) capabilities for femtocells. The PC8210, PC8211 and PC8810 Radio Environment Scanners (RESs) enable femtocells to detect WCDMA, GSM and TD-SCDMA networks respectively. A ‘sniffer’ or ‘network listen’ capability is essential to automate the tasks of cell planning, synchronization and handover within networks.

STMicroelectronics Rolls Out TSH122 Video Buffer IC
Mobile video devices including digital cameras, camera phones and personal media players can run longer using the new TSH122 video buffer IC from STMicroelectronics (NYSE: STM), one of the world leaders in analog ICs. The new device has a low operating current of 1.7mA and draws the lowest standby current among comparable devices, at just 4nA typical, 500nA maximum.

The Embedded Microprocessor Benchmark Consortium (EEMBC) announced that VirtualLogix, Inc., which develops and markets virtualization and partitioning software that allows embedded systems to run heterogeneous operating systems and applications efficiently and safely, is the newest member of the consortium’s hypervisor subcommittee.

Xilinx to Exhibit at Electronica 2008
Xilinx, Inc. (Nasdaq: XLNX) announced its participation at Electronica 2008, set in Munich, Germany from November 11-14. Xilinx will exhibit its leading programmable logic solutions enabling the latest electronics technology with in-booth demonstrations focusing on automotive, industrial networking, machine vision and surveillance applications.

Gleichmann Electronics Announces AU Optronics TFT Displays
The two new 5.7-inch TFT displays, G057VN01 and G057QN01, from AU Optronics each feature a wide operating temperature range from -30°C to +85°C and low power consumption of just marginally more than 2 W. Both the model G057VN01 with 640 x 480 pixels (VGA resolution) and the G057QN01 with 320 x 240 pixels (QVGA resolution) are provided with a LED backlight, which also at low temperatures still guarantees an optimal light yield.

Falcom Selects u-blox UBX-G5010 GPS Engine
u-blox announced that Falcom has chosen u-blox 5 as the GPS engine for forthcoming GPS-based products in their continuous efforts to improve product performance and deliver state of the art technology. First designs incorporating this technology include a high-sensitivity compact GPS mouse, an AVL (automotive vehicle location) device and a GPS smart antenna. The products will be launched at the Electronica trade fair, 11-14 November, Munich.
