Posted by Ken Cheung in Microcontrollers,Wireless on Wednesday, November 5, 2008

Wavecom (Paris:AVM) (NASDAQ:WVCM) recently announced the Q26 Extreme and Q26 Elite Wireless CPUs. The Q26 Extreme offers dual-mode 2G and 3G for data-intensive applications like real-time video streaming for the security or automotive industries. The Q26 Elite offers CDMA 2000 1x wireless voice and data connectivity in the same form-factor, so customers can design their application once and connect using any cellular protocol, anywhere around the world.

Q26 Extreme
The 2G/3G Q26 Extreme is equipped with antenna diversity and runs at peak data rates up to 7.2Mbps HSDPA and 2Mbps HSUPA with automated 2G/3G handover. Q26 Extreme is the first dual-mode quad-band GSM, GPRS, EDGE and tri-band HSDPA and HSUPA programmable Wireless CPU in the world. The built in duo-core application processor provides dedicated application processing ARM9 power at up to 104MHz, programmable in C and/or Lua. It can be used as a smart wireless modem, connecting to back end IT systems securely; as a cooperative processor, sharing the system load of the final product with a host processor; or, for the ultimate in efficiency and cost-effectiveness, it provides customers with the option to embed their application directly on the device’s integrated ARM9 32-bit processor, capable of executing 88 million instructions per second.

Q26 Elite
The Q26 Elite Wireless CPU is a CDMA 1xRTT wireless device that when integrated will allow any application or machine to send voice and data over a CDMA wireless network. The Q26 Elite utilizes the new Qualcomm QSC6055 chipset, ensuring availability for many years to come. It comes in the same form factor as all of Wavecom’s Q26 Wireless CPU devices, enabling one hardware platform design to be used for all wireless technologies. Q26 Elite features up-to-date CDMA technology and supports GPS, making it uniquely suited for fleet management and tracking applications with E911 requirements. In addition, it provides customers using CDMA an opportunity to upgrade as new technology becomes available.

Both Q26 Elite and Q26 Extreme are automotive grade products and meet the toughest quality requirements in the industry.
