Pinnacle Data Systems Introduces XMC-E24D, PMC-E24D Graphics Cards
Pinnacle Data Systems, Inc. (PDSi) (AMEX:PNS) announced a pair of new high-performance dual display graphics cards for the embedded computing market. The XMC-E24D and PMC-E24D are based on the ATI Radeon[tm] E2400 graphics processor from AMD and feature two independent high resolution graphics channels for simultaneous digital DVI-I and analog VGA outputs.

SafeNet Experts to Discuss Security at Embedded Systems Conference
SafeNet, Inc. announced that SafeNet mobile and networking security experts Steve Singer and Bart Stevens will speak at the Embedded Systems Conference at the Hynes Convention Center in Boston, Massachusetts from October 26-30, 2008. Renesas Reveals Winners of HEW Target Server Design Contest
Renesas announced the winners of the 2008 HEW (High-performance Embedded Workshop) Target Server Design Contest. First-place winner Todd Phelps of Calgary, Canada received a $5,000 cash prize for designing the rGUI runtime-reconfigurable graphical user interface. Second-place winner Salvador Perdomo of Las Palmas de GC, Spain received $3,000 for his design for an LCR complex-impedance meter. Third-place winner, David Kanceruk of Winnipeg, Canada was awarded $2,000 for creating a script-based production and testing tool.

Arrow Asia to Host SOPC World 2008 in India, China
Arrow Asia announced that it will join Altera Corporation (NASDAQ: ALTR) to host SOPC (system-on-a-programmable-chip) World in four cities, including Bangalore (Oct. 14)) and Dehli (Oct. 16) in India, and Shenzhen (Oct. 20), Hangzhou (Oct. 22), and Beijing (Oct. 24) in mainland China.

IMEC Stabilizes Nanomorphology of Organic Solar Cells
IMEC’s associated laboratory IMOMEC developed a method to stabilize the nanomorphology of organic solar cells resulting in a lifetime improvement of at least a factor 10. With these stabilized solar cells, efficiencies were achieved comparable to state-of-the-art organic solar cells. This breakthrough paves the way to commercial organic solar cells with an operational lifetime of over 5 years and efficiencies of over 10%.

IMEC Develops Ambulatory Arousal Monitor
IMEC developed an ambulatory arousal monitor. The new research concept uses a combination of body parameters to monitor a person’s arousal level. The compact form factor and the long battery lifetime allow the use of the arousal monitor in new application domains such as mobile gaming and clinical trials.
