Renesas Launches SH7366 SH-MobileUL2 Application Processor
Renesas Technology America, Inc. announced the SH-MobileUL2, a new member of the popular SH-Mobile series of application processors for mobile applications. The device’s enhanced cost-performance ratio, improved design and high level of integration allow customers to design popularly priced portable media players and mobile phones incorporating multimedia processing functions previously found mainly in high-end models.

VaST Announces CoMET, METeor Prototyping Tools for Eclipse 3.3
VaST announced the availability of the latest versions of its virtual system prototyping tools, CoMET® and METeor[tm] version 6.1 fully integrated into the Eclipse 3.3 (Europa) Framework. CoMET® is a system engineering tool enabling the creation of a virtual system prototype. METeor[tm] is an interactive software development environment for embedded systems and system-on-chip.

Tensilica, Cadence Team on CPF-Enabled Flow for Multimedia Subsystems
Tensilica,® Inc. announced that they have collaborated with Cadence (NASDAQ: CDNS) to create a Common Power Format (CPF)-enabled low-power reference design for a multimedia subsystem based upon its popular 330HiFi Audio Processor and 388VDO Video Engine. Cadence and Tensilica engineers worked together to develop an implementation of the Tensilica multiprocessor audio-video platform using the complete Cadence Low-Power Solution.

Tokyo Electron Device Introduces TB-OP-FCRAM Evaluation Board
Tokyo Electron Device Limited (TED) has developed the inrevium “TB-OP-FCRAM” evaluation board, for FCRAM developed by Fujitsu Microelectronics Limited. The board facilitates the testing of low-power consumption memory FCRAM in the SoC development by users who develop their own system LSIs. TED targets selling the board for the customers who develop consumer digital product such as digital TV, digital camera and portable media player.

ATEME Announces Gen3 MPEG-4 AVC/H.264 Core Engine
ATEME[TM] SA announced the release of its third generation (Gen3) MPEG-4 AVC/H.264 core engine. ATEME’s Gen3 H.264 codec, for the Kyrion series of real-time video encoders, is based on a number of ATEME patent-pending innovations enabling bandwidth efficiency gains and video quality enhancements over the previous generation of H.264 codecs.

ESLX Merges with XtremeEDA
XtremeEDA Corporation announced it has merged with ESLX, Inc., a US-based company offering design and educational services at the electronic system-level (ESL). Now a wholly-owned subsidiary of XtremeEDA, ESLX has been renamed and will operate as a US-based company, XtremeEDA USA. The combined companies will offer custom solutions across the full spectrum of the electronics design chain for architectural modeling, intellectual property (IP) integration and verification of highly complex chips and systems.

Electronics.ca Publishes Report on Semiconductor Materials
Electronics.ca Publications announces the availability of a new report entitled “SEMI Material Market Data Subscription.” There has been a fair amount of discussion about the current state or downturn that our industry is currently in. However, this topic primarily pertains to the equipment sector, not the chip and materials segments. In fact it is expected that the semiconductor materials segment will be $12.6 billion larger than the semiconductor equipment market this year.

Altera Announces Asia Pacific SOPC World 2008
