EEMBC Reveals Benchmark Scores for Freescale i.MX31 with ARM Compiler
The Embedded Microprocessor Benchmark Consortium (EEMBC) announced the publication of new certified benchmark scores for the ARM processor-based Freescale i.MX31 multimedia applications processor. Tested with the ARM® RealView® RVCT 3.1 build 559 compiler, the new results supersede a previous set of certified scores using a GCC version 3.43 compiler and limited –O2 optimizations.

KLA-Tencor to Acquire MIE Business Unit of Vistec Semiconductor
KLA-Tencor (NASDAQ: KLAC) announced that it has entered into an agreement to acquire the Microelectronic Inspection Equipment (MIE) business unit of Vistec Semiconductor Systems, which is wholly owned by Golden Gate Capital, a San Francisco-based private equity firm. The MIE business unit of Vistec is headquartered in Weilburg, Germany and provides advanced semiconductor mask and wafer manufacturing systems. Financial terms of the transaction were not disclosed.

Vivante Joins MIPS Alliance Program
Vivante Corporation, the embedded GPU technology leader, announced that it has joined the MIPS® Alliance Program to bring its programmable graphics IP cores to designers using cores from MIPS Technologies (NasdaqGS: MIPS). Vivante will optimize its HD Visual Reality[TM] and Mobile Visual Reality[TM] line of 2D and 2D/3D graphics processor IP solutions, for integration in designs using the MIPS32® 24K® and MIPS32® 24KE[tm] cores, which are widely used in media server, DVD, set-top box and mobile solutions.

Frost & Sullivan Comments on Femtocell Research
Although mobile operators are increasingly optimistic about femtocells, there are many doubts circulating around this new technology as it struggles to resolve key challenges such as functionality and cost. These low-power radio systems, known as femtocells, plug into a residential broadband connection and enable mobile subscribers to use their existing mobile cellular handsets to access both data and voice services.

Virage Logic Corp. (Nasdaq: VIRL) announced that Advanced Micro Devices’ (Nasdaq: AMD) ATI Radeon[tm] 4800 series graphics products leverage Virage Logic’s advanced embedded memory IP for superior performance. The relationship between AMD and Virage Logic provides AMD with access to Virage Logic’s embedded memory IP offering to support graphics processors and other devices for 65-nanometer (nm) and 55nm processes and beyond.
