ARM Spins Off SoC Designer to Carbon Design Systems
ARM [(LSE:ARM); (Nasdaq:ARMH)] and Carbon Design Systems[tm] announced an agreement under which Carbon will take over future development, support and sale of the SoC Designer tool. Key members of the ARM® SoC Designer development team will join Carbon Design Systems and form a new Carbon development office located in Irvine, Calif. Carbon will also gain access to ARM intellectual property (IP) in order to optimize its tools to generate cycle-accurate models of ARM processors, PrimeCell® peripherals and fabric IP.
Cypress, Tower Announce .18-Micron Stitched CMOS Image Sensor Device
Cypress Semiconductor Corp. (NYSE:CY), a leading developer and manufacturer of programmable mixed-signal solutions and CMOS Image Sensor (CIS) components, and Tower Semiconductor, Ltd. (Nasdaq:TSEM) (TASE:TSEM), an independent specialty foundry, announced the successful completion of Cypress's first 0.18-micron stitched large-format CIS device. The product is to be manufactured using Tower Semiconductor's latest generation of stitching technology at Tower's 200-mm Fab 2 in Migdal Ha'emek, Israel.
Agilent Announces U8000 Series Low-Cost DC Power Supplies
Agilent Technologies Inc. (NYSE: A) introduced the U8000 Series single-output, non-programmable DC power supplies, a low-cost expansion of the best-selling Agilent E3600 Series. Beyond cost savings, these DC power supplies offer excellent value with features that are typical only in costly programmable models. With power ranging from 90 W to 150 W, they are suitable for a variety of electronics-manufacturing applications and provide reliable, affordable power for educational uses.

Renesas Selects Cadence Virtuoso Spectre Circuit Simulator for AMS Design
Cadence Design Systems, Inc. (NASDAQ: CDNS) announced that Renesas Technology Corporation has adopted the new version of Cadence® Virtuoso® Spectre® Circuit Simulator, with performance-boosting "turbo" technology, for its analog and mixed-signal designs. Since participating in an early access program, Renesas has realized a significant reduction in simulation run time for pre-layout designs. The Renesas team has seen simulation speed improve up to five times without any sacrifice of full SPICE accuracy.
