NEC Rolls Out Programmable Timer-Counter, USART, PIU
NEC Electronics America, Inc. introduced three new application-specific standard products (ASSPs) that provide cost-effective solutions for microcomputer systems. The uPD65881GB-P0x series includes a universal synchronous/asynchronous receiver transmitter (USART), a programmable timer/counter and a parallel interface unit (PIU) for standard applications such as computers, office equipment, communications equipment, test and measurement equipment, and home electronic appliances.

Texas Instruments Introduces ADS5483 ADC, CDCE72010 Clock Synthesizer
Texas Instruments Incorporated (TI) (NYSE: TXN) introduced a 16-bit, single-channel, 135 mega samples per second (MSPS) analog-to-digital converter (ADC) and a low-jitter clock synthesizer. The combined signal chain solution provides unmatched dynamic system-level performance in communications, defense, and test and measurement applications. The data converter and clock are available on the same evaluation module (EVM) to facilitate fast evaluations of complex systems.

Enfora Enabler Low Power Platform Increases Battery Life by 10x
Enfora announced the Enabler® Low Power Platform (LPP). This new platform provides developers with a wireless solution that can extend battery life from 30 days, for example, to as much as 18 months. With the ability to support and manage extended battery life, the Enabler LPP platform is purpose built, supporting applications that track mobile enterprise assets, vehicle fleets, and a host of other equipment in a variety of vertical markets.

STMicroelectronics, Debiotech Create Disposable Insulin Nanopump
Debiotech and STMicroelectronics (NYSE: STM) introduced first evaluation prototypes of a unique miniaturized insulin-delivery pump. The tiny device can be mounted on a disposable skin patch to provide continuous insulin infusion, enabling substantial advancements in the availability, treatment efficiency and the quality of life of diabetes patients. The breakthrough Nanopump relies on microfluidic MEMS (Micro-Electro-Mechanical System) technology.
