Texas Instruments Debuts Multi-Channel, Simultaneous Sampling ADCs
Texas Instruments Incorporated (TI) (NYSE: TXN) announced two multi-channel, 16-bit, delta-sigma analog-to-digital converters (ADCs), which combine outstanding DC accuracy and AC performance with cost-effective integration. The ADS1174 (4-channel) and ADS1178 (8-channel) provide a simultaneous-sampling measurement system for demanding signal acquisition applications, such as power metering, defibrillators and ECG monitors, pressure sensors, coriolis flow meters and vibration/modal analysis.

STMicroelectronics Introduces VIPer17 Off-line Switched Mode Converter
STMicroelectronics (NYSE: STM), a world leader in power applications, has introduced the VIPer17 off-line switched-mode converter, which integrates an 800V avalanche-rugged MOSFET as well as numerous features to save external components and ensure efficient operation during standby mode. Constant-current operation with an adjustable set point allows use with all mains voltages in SMPS (switched-mode power supply) designs up to 12W.

OSRAM Opto Semiconductors Announces CERAMOS Reflector LED
The new CERAMOS Reflector LED from OSRAM Opto Semiconductors provides unprecedented high brightness and power in a very small package, the ideal solution for backlighting mid-size (5″-20″) LCDs. Specifically designed for light guide-based backlighting of displays in high ambient light conditions, such as those found in today’s TFT displays, automotive dashboards and aircraft cockpits, the slim profile of the CERAMOS Reflector LED is well suited for in-coupling into light guides as thin as 2 mm.

NEC Rolls Out EMMA3SL/HD, EMMA3SL/SD Image Processing Solutions
NEC introduced two new image-processing solutions based on NEC Electronics’ enhanced multimedia architecture (EMMA) platform. The new EMMA3SL/HD and EMMA3SL/SD devices enable users to build set-top boxes (STBs) and digital TVs (DTVs) with next-generation H.264 video compression standard, which offers twice the compression ratio as the current MPEG2 standard. The EMMA3SL/SD system-on-chip (SoC) supports standard-definition video broadcasts, while the EMMA3SL/HD SoC supports high-definition broadcasts.

Magma Announces Demonstrations for Design Automation Conference
Magma Design Automation Inc. (Nasdaq:LAVA), a provider of chip design software, announced a line-up of demonstrations for DAC that will show how engineers can use Magma’s broadened line of software to create electronic products that innovatively address today’s consumer demands. The new Titan analog implementation system, methods for minimizing power consumption, and design for manufacturability (DFM) capabilities integrated in the design flow will be among the technology Magma demonstrates.

ST Selects Mentor Graphics Calibre LFD for Litho Variability Analysis
Mentor Graphics Corporation (Nasdaq: MENT) announced that STMicroelectronics has selected the Mentor Graphics Calibre DFM (design for manufacturing) platform with the Calibre LFD (Litho-Friendly-Design) system for its Litho Variability Analysis solution aimed at controlling manufacturing variability at 65 nanometer and beyond. The announcement follows an extensive evaluation of commercially available solutions based on accuracy, speed and ability to integrate with existing design flows.
