CSR BlueCore5 Multimedia Platform Supports Text-to-Speech
CSR announced that its BlueCore5-Multimedia platform now supports integrated speech synthesis, also known as text-to-speech (TTS), and speech recognition (SR) functionality. Developed through its third party eXtension Partner Programme with NowSpeak and Rubidium Ltd., CSR can now offer headset and hands-free car kit users a true hands-free experience when using Bluetooth accessories.

Xilinx Announces Winners of Open Source Hardware Innovation Contest
At an awards ceremony held this week, Xilinx, Inc. (Nasdaq: XLNX) announced the winners of its inaugural Open Source Hardware Innovation Contest, launched in June 2007 for engineering students at Chinese universities. The innovation contest is the first of its kind to establish an open source hardware community (OSHC) for senior undergraduates, masters and doctoral-level engineering students in mainland China designing with industry-leading FPGA platforms.

SMIC, Amlogic Team on 90nm Digital Photo Frame Chip

National Nanotechnology Initiative Needs to Change
In 2001, the U.S. launched the National Nanotechnology Initiative (NNI), the federal coordinating program for nanotechnology research which has channeled $7.2 billion in funding since inception. The NNI has been a great success, catalyzing a virtuous cycle of innovation.
