Tekmos, Inc. recently introduced the first true pin for pin, code and timing compatible drop in replacement for the S87C751, which was previously offered by NXP. The TK87C751 is an integrated microcontroller that features the Tekmos 8051 Classic CPU core, built in power management, I2C controller, 2 timers, 3 parallel ports, 128 bytes of internal RAM, 65K bytes of Flash program storage, and the original 28 PLCC package. A version based on the original 24 PDIP is planned for the 2nd Quarter of 2008.

While being compatible with the original design, the TK87C751 offers double the RAM resources and 32 times the program storage. The use of flash for the program storage allows the customer to re-program devices if necessary. The TK87C751 is available now in a 28 pin PLCC package, and is priced at $7.50 each in quantities of 1000 units.
