Crossware 8051 Development Suite Supports Silicon Laboratories MCUs
Crossware, a leading embedded software tools developer, has enhanced its 8051 Development Suite by adding support for an additional 64 chips across 10 families in the Silicon Laboratories mixed signal microcontroller (MCU) range. The chips supported include the recently-introduced C8051T610 family of small form factor low cost 8-bit MCUs which are ideal for consumer and industrial applications that are under increasing cost pressure.

TI Rolls Out TUSB6020 USB 2.0 On-the-Go Dual-Role Controller
Texas Instruments (TI) (NYSE: TXN) introduced a high-speed Universal Serial Bus (USB) 2.0 On-The-Go (OTG) dual-role controller that provides flexible architecture to meet a multitude of customer-defined applications. It can operate either as a function controller for a USB peripheral or as the host/peripheral in point-to-point or multipoint communications. This low-power device’s idle mode operating at less than 100uA will extend battery life in consumer devices.

Networking Connections Become Necessary in Consumer Electronics
According to ABI Research, in coming years home network connections will no longer be an optional feature for many consumer electronics products, as digital content, social networking and IP services delivered through embedded network connections will be demanded by consumers in the devices they buy. The leading device categories for embedded networking in consumer electronics will shift from the early market leaders – game consoles – to TVs and DVD players.
