Synopsys Acquires Synplicity
Synplicity, Inc. (Nasdaq:SYNP), a leading supplier of solutions for the design and verification of semiconductors, announced it has signed a definitive agreement to be acquired by Synopsys, Inc., (Nasdaq:SNPS) a world leader in software and IP for semiconductor design and manufacturing. When completed, the acquisition will expand Synplicity's product portfolio and extend the market reach of its industry leading products.

VDC Comments on Kontron's Acquisition of Thales Computers
Earlier this week, Kontron Modular Computers GmbH finalized its acquisition of Thales Group's Thales Computers subsidiary. Thales Computers, headquartered in Toulon Cedex, France, has 100 employees that shipped approximately EUR 20 million worth of embedded computer systems in 2007. Founded in 1986, the company designs, builds, markets and services COTS-based, rugged, high-performance embedded systems.

Timesys Offers Board Support Package for Freescale i.MX27 Processors
Timesys Corporation, a premier provider of embedded Linux software solutions, announced the availability of a Free Board Support Package (BSP) for the Freescale i.MX27 multimedia applications processor. Additionally, the free Freescale BSP can be upgraded to a full LinuxLink subscription, providing a powerful suite of software, tools and support to accelerate the development of a custom Linux platform.

TaraCom, GDA Team on GPON SerDes Phy IP, MAC for System Designs
TaraCom Integrated Products and GDA Technologies have entered into a partnership to combine their extensive experience in the mixed signal and digital technologies to offer an integrated solution for GPON applications for the ONU SerDes Phy and the GPON MAC that can be readily integrated into ASIC, SoC or other packaging formats in either 90 or 65 nm process technologies with multiple fabrication suppliers.

Spectrum Control Rolls Out Series 700 EMI Filtered D-Sub Connectors

Smartphones to Account for 31% of Handset Market
The market for smartphones will grow from around 10% of the total handset market in 2007 to 31% of the market in 2013. A new study from ABI Research projects this meteoric growth to be a product of a number of complex factors including carriers' drives to grow data revenues from advanced services and the general trend to pushing "smart" operating systems down into middle tier devices.
