Imperas Launches Open Virtual Platforms for Embedded Prototyping
Imperas Ltd. launched Open Virtual Platforms (OVP) to establish a common, open standard solution for developers to quickly and inexpensively simulate embedded software on system-on-chip (SoC) designs. The donation, representing approximately $4 million worth of technology investment, includes modeling technology, Imperas’ existing library of models, and OVPSim, a proven reference simulator.

Technosoft Rolls Out PIM2401 Intelligent Plug-in Minidrive
PIM2401, the new Technosoft intelligent plug-in minidrive, is specially designed for motion control applications where space is dramatically limited. Its miniature size (39 x 44 x 16 mm) and weight (15 g) allow it to be mounted horizontally or vertically, inside the machine or near the motor. The drive is manufactured with simple pins; this architecture reduces the time needed to assemble it. PIM2401 controls DC, brushless, linear and step motors up to 25 W (24 V, 1 A).

National Instruments Introduces VXI 8360T VXI MXI Express Controller
National Instruments (Nasdaq: NATI) announced the industry’s first VXI-MXI-Express controller using cabled PCI Express technology to deliver a high-bandwidth, low-latency VXI interface. Cabled PCI Express greatly reduces the size of the VXI-MXI-Express cable compared to the larger VXI-MXI-2 cables while maintaining similar or improved performance.

Openmoko Frees Neo Mobile Phone Industrial Design Source Files
Openmoko expanded the meaning of Open Source by posting the industrial design source files for its Neo branded mobile phones. Industrial design artists now have the same freedom as software engineers. Openmoko’s source code was freed in February 2007, allowing complete transformation of its mobile phone software. By publishing mechanical CAD files, Openmoko frees industrial designers to redesign the Neo branded mobile phones to fit their vision and market needs.

DATE ’08 Conference and Exhibition

U.S. Air Force Selects RTI to Protect Distributed Systems
Real-Time Innovations (RTI), The Real-Time Middleware Experts, announced that U.S. Air Force Research Laboratories has contracted with the company to research and develop a Data Distribution Service standards-based system to scan network nodes for security vulnerabilities. The effort will incorporate developments in active and passive network traffic sniffing, node security policy management, complex event processing, high-performance network data distribution and data persistence.
