Kontron Acquires Thales Computers
Kontron, one of the leading suppliers of embedded computer technology, signed an agreement on February 15th via one of its subsidiary companies to acquire 100% of the shares of the French Thales Computers S.A., a subsidiary of Thales S.A. The closing is expected to take place in March 2008 after approval of the French Ministry of Economy.

Windows Ranks First in North American Retail POS Terminal Market
POS Terminals running Microsoft® Windows® operating systems drove $3.8 billion of the $5.56 Billion North American Retail POS Terminal Market in 2007, according to a new study by IHL Group. IBM 4690 terminals generated $1.02 billion and Linux-based machines $475 million, with DOS and other operating systems being installed on the remainder of units. These figures take into consideration the 2007 current shipments and maintenance on existing terminals.

Atmel® Corporation (Nasdaq: ATML) and Trango Virtual Processors announced the availability of Trango’s Hypervisor for users of Atmel’s AT91CAP9 customizable microcontroller. By creating multiple machine-independent virtual instances of the underlying CAP(tm) architecture, Trango’s Hypervisor significantly reduces the time taken to develop CAP application software, and enables existing software to be re-used with minimal modification.

KLA-Tencor to Acquire ICOS Vision Systems
KLA-Tencor Corporation (NASDAQ:KLAC) and ICOS Vision Systems Corporation NV (Euronext:IVIS) jointly announced an agreement under which KLA-Tencor will make a friendly tender offer to acquire ICOS in a cash transaction valued at €36.50 per share. ICOS is a leading supplier of packaging and interconnect inspection solutions for the semiconductor industry, and has a market leadership position in the inspection of photovoltaic solar technologies and LED lighting products.

Peratech Spins Out Eleksen Wearable Electronics, Forms QIO Systems
Peratech Limited has announced its plan to licence out its Eleksen consumer wearables business into QIO Systems. As part of the deal, QIO Systems gains a worldwide exclusive licence to the intellectual property and design rights for the electronics and textile touchpads of Eleksen and for the manufacture and sale of ElekTex textile touchpads for use in both consumer and commercial applications. In exchange, Peratech will take an equity shareholding in QIO Systems.

Optical Device Manufacturers Reveal XLMD-MSA Common Specifications
Eudyna Devices Inc., Mitsubishi Electric Corp., NEC Electronics Corp., Oki Electric Industry Co., Ltd., Opnext, Inc. and Sumitomo Electric Industries, Ltd., announced, in advance of OFC/NFOEC, common specifications for pigtail type optical devices based on the 40 Gbit/s Optical Device Multi-Source Agreement (XLMD-MSA1), introduced by the six companies in March 2007.

Advansus, GeoVision, EverFocus Team on Q965 DVR Surveillance System
Advansus will partner with Geovision and Everfocus to highlight a network-based Video Surveillance application at Embedded World 2008, from February 26-28 in Nuremburg Germany. Combined with this, Advansus will have on hand a comprehensive display of seven systems and sixteen motherboards to demonstrate 3D Gaming, digital signage and KIOSK applications, based on Mini-ITX motherboards, all of which feature dual-view displays, dual audio streams and 5W stereo amplifiers.
