Driving entirely autonomously without a driver at the touch of a button – this feat is achieved by this year’s Concept Car from the Swiss company for new designs and ideas Rinspeed. “sQuba” – a car which Rinspeed boss Frank Rinderknecht claims was inspired by James Bond films – is to be presented for the first time from 6 to 16 March at the Geneva Motor Show.

Cadence, Mentor Release Enhanced Open Verification Methodology
Cadence Design Systems, Inc. (NASDAQ: CDNS) and Mentor Graphics Corp. (NASDAQ: MENT) announced an enhanced release of the source-code library and user documentation for the Open Verification Methodology (OVM), the industry’s first open, interoperable SystemVerilog verification methodology. These enhancements are the result of feedback from the growing user community. To further support these users, Mentor Graphics and Cadence are launching a series of worldwide activities.

IR Debuts IR3514, IR3507 XPhase Chipsets for AMD PVID, SVID Processors
International Rectifier, IR® (NYSE:IRF), a world leader in power management technology, introduced the IR3514 and IR3507 XPhase® chipset for AMD® parallel and serial VID (PVID and SVID) processors. The IR3514 control IC enables designers to migrate from AMD processors requiring a parallel VID to SVID processors without the need to change the motherboard. The IR3514 provides Power Saving Interface (PSI) capability to turn phases(N-1) on or off depending on CPU load requirements.

Agilent Introduces Boundary Scan-VTEP Hybrid for In-Circuit Test
Agilent Technologies Inc. (NYSE:A) announced that it will offer in-circuit test (ICT) users an innovative way to test their printed circuit board assemblies (PCBAs) in a limited access environment without sacrificing test coverage or time-to-market — while simultaneously saving on fixture cost and reducing test resources. The technology is a hybrid between two established test methodologies in today’s electronic manufacturing test environment: Boundary Scan and VTEP vectorless testing.

Equipment Fab Spending Declines by 15% in SEMI Fab Database Report
A recent analysis of SEMI Fab Database reports show that spending on fab construction projects and fabs equipping will likely see double digit declines in 2008 as many fab construction projects are put on hold or pushed out to end of the year or into 2009. Spending on equipping fabs in 2008 is expected to decline 15 percent compared to the nine percent growth last year. The analysis represents a downward revision of the outlook reported in the October 2007 Fab Database Report.

Agilent Releases Latest Antenna Modeling Design System
Agilent Technologies Inc. (NYSE:A) announced the availability of its latest Antenna Modeling Design System (AMDS) release. The full-wave 3-D electromagnetic (EM) modeling and simulation software contains a scripting feature for performance optimization and automation of complex designs such as patch array antennas, allowing designers to fine tune antennas for the best performance within electronic devices, such as handheld wireless cell phones.

Samsung Selects Tensilica Diamond Standard 330HiFi Audio DSP
Tensilica, Inc. announced that Samsung Electronics Co., Ltd. has signed a broad multi-year license for Tensilica’s Diamond Standard 330HiFi audio DSP (digital signal processor). Tensilica’s HiFi architecture is the most popular commercial audio core for system-on-chip (SOC) designs. Samsung will use the Diamond Standard 330HiFi audio DSP in mobile handset and other designs.

Gleichmann Electronics Announces NEC 78K0R/Ix3 Microcontrollers
Gleichmann Electronics presents 19 new 16-bit All Flash(TM) microcontrollers (MCUs)in NEC Electronics’ 78K0R/Ix3 lineup. The new MCUs are built around a 78K0R CPU core that executes 13 million instructions per second (MIPS) at a clock speed of 20 MHz. The power consumption is only 1.8 mW per MIPS. Available on-chip memory configurations include 16 to 64 Kbytes of internal flash memory and 1 to 3 Kbytes of internal RAM.
