Axcess Announces Royalty Free Dot Micro-Wireless Platform
Axcess International Inc. (OTCBB:AXSI), a leading provider of wireless business activity monitoring solutions, announced the opening of its new Dot(tm) micro-wireless technology to developers for building applications to enable wireless communications from all things in the enterprise. Dots are ultra small, battery powered wireless computers embedded into or attached to things such as ID cards, assets and vehicles enabling them to be automatically identified, located, counted and sensed.

Toshiba Creates Technology for Fastest Embedded DRAM
Toshiba Corporation announced that it has realized the world’s fastest circuit technology for embedded DRAM for System LSI, achieving a speed of 833MHz at 32Mb density. The technology will be applied to graphic processing LSI. The technology was introduced at the ISSCC (International Solid State Circuits Conference).

Atmel Acquires Quantum Research Group
Atmel(R) Corporation (Nasdaq: ATML) announced that it has signed a definitive agreement to acquire Quantum Research Group Ltd. (“Quantum”), the leading independent developer of capacitive sensing IP and solutions for user interfaces. The acquisition of Quantum provides Atmel with an immediate presence in touch sensing, one of the fastest growing markets for microcontrollers.

NEC, Kineto Announce Proposal for Rapid Femtocell Standardization
NEC Corporation (NEC) and Kineto Wireless announced their proposal for enabling the mobile industry to quickly define a standard for supporting the deployment of femtocells. The joint proposal, based on the existing 3GPP GAN (Generic Access Network) standard, has been contributed to the 3GPP standards body as part of a femtocell study currently in progress.

NextWave Wireless Inc. Digi Introduces ConnectPort X2 ZigBee-to-IP Gateway
Digi International (NASDAQ:DGII) introduced the ConnectPort X2, a wireless gateway about the size of a deck of cards that links ZigBee/802.15.4 device networks with IP networks over Wi-Fi or Ethernet connections. The single function ConnectPort X2 is available in two configurations – ZigBee-to-Wi-Fi or ZigBee-to-Ethernet, and provides easy, cost-effective IP connectivity to wireless ZigBee networks where access to an Ethernet or Wi-Fi infrastructure exists.

Silicon Wafer Shipments Increase by 8% in 2007
Worldwide silicon wafer area shipments increased by 8 percent in 2007 when compared to 2006 area shipments according to the SEMI Silicon Manufacturers Group (SMG) in its year-end analysis of the silicon wafer industry. Revenues also grew by 21 percent in 2007 compared to 2006, as a result of 300 mm contributing to an overall better product mix.

Effnet, RMI Team on Solution for ROHC on XLR, XLS Processors
Effnet AB, the leading provider of header compression solutions, and RMI Corporation (RMI), a leading supplier of processor based solutions for networking, communications and consumer applications, announced that they have collaborated to bring out a joint solution of Effnet ROHC(TM) on RMI’s XLR and XLS Processors. Altera Corporation (NASDAQ:ALTR) announced its Stratix® III FPGAs were presented with the International Engineering Consortium’s (IEC) DesignVision Award in the Semiconductor and IC category. Stratix III FPGAs were recognized by the IEC for their unique and innovative architecture, which enables Altera to deliver the industry’s highest performance and lowest power high-end FPGAs.
