Universal Electronics Offers to Acquire Zilog
Zilog, Inc. (Nasdaq: ZILG) announced that it has received from Universal Electronics, Inc. an unsolicited, non-binding and conditional proposal to acquire the company. Zilog also announced that it has received a copy of the Schedule 13D filed today by Riley Investment Management LLC disclosing the unsolicited acquisition proposal.

u-blox GPS Chip Powers uProT Golf Rangefinder

SEMI Reports December Book-to-Bill Ratio of 0.89
North American-based manufacturers of semiconductor equipment posted $1.23 billion in orders in December 2007 (three-month average basis) and a book-to-bill ratio of 0.89 according to the December 2007 Book-to-Bill Report published today by SEMI. A book-to-bill of 0.89 means that $89 worth of orders were received for every $100 of product billed for the month.

picoChip Creates PC8808 TD-SCDMA Femtocell Reference Design
picoChip announced the PC8808 TD-SCDMA femtocell reference design, the first to support this standard. Femtocells (or 3G access points) are low-cost basestations optimized for deployment inside buildings to improve coverage and data rates. The new design was developed in China at picoChip’s Beijing design center. TD-SCDMA is the third major 3G standard, and is expected to launch in the Olympic cities this summer.
