FIC Forms OpenMoko Mobile Device Company

Posted by Ken Cheung in Wireless on Wednesday, January 2, 2008

FIC — a motherboard, graphics, and mobile manufacturer — has spun off OpenMoko as a separate company. OpenMoko, which was launched as a project early 2006 within FIC, is the creator of the first completely integrated open source mobile platform. By forming a separate company, OpenMoko can further develop its brand leadership in the open mobile space while leveraging its relationship with FIC, which has provided capital for OpenMoko and will manufacture high-quality mobile products based on the OpenMoko platform. By establishing a separate cost center and operations, OpenMoko hopes to forge new business models and deliver Free and Open Source Software (FOSS) to the mobile world.
