OSCI Releases Transaction-Level Modeling Standard Draft 2
The Open SystemC Initiative (OSCI), an independent non-profit organization dedicated to supporting and advancing SystemC(TM) as an industry standard language for electronic system-level (ESL) design, announced the milestone release of the new transaction-level modeling standard, TLM-2 draft 2. This standard enables model interoperability and reuse at the transaction level, providing an essential framework for ESL design. The public review period is now open to the worldwide SystemC community and ends on January 31, 2008. SystemC users, ESL tool developers and intellectual property (IP) providers are encouraged to participate and provide feedback. The TLM-2 draft 2 kit is made available under open source license and includes a requirements specification, documentation, library and examples.

Atmel Debuts CryptoRF RFID Device with 64-bit Embedded Cryptographic Engine
Atmel® Corporation (Nasdaq: ATML) announced CryptoRF®, the world’s first 13.56 MHz RFID devices with a 64-bit embedded cryptographic engine, mutual authentication capability, and up to 16 individually configurable zones. These devices prevent product counterfeiting; a problem assessed at over $600 billion in seized fakes in 2007. One of the most reliable ways to protect against counterfeiters is to lock product authenticity in hardware. Atmel’s CryptoRF devices create unique “signatures” based on information that is never transmitted or allowed to be accessed in any way.

Quickfilter Technologies Raises $4.8 Million in Funding
Quickfilter Technologies, Inc., a fabless semiconductor company that develops mixed-signal ICs based on a programmable finite impulse response (FIR) engine for digital signal processing, announced that it has closed its third round of investor funding totaling $4.8 million. The Series C financing, raised by private investors including several private equity firms, will enable the company to expand its marketing strategy to increase high-volume design wins as well as develop new products for its target markets including consumer audio, automotive, industrial controls and medical electronic systems.

Foxlink, Sensory to Create Voice Interfaces for Bluetooth Devices
Sensory, Inc. and Foxlink Group announced their strategic cooperation to create Bluetooth products using speech I/O (recognition and prompts) as a Voice User Interface (VUI). The parties will initially focus on the Bluetooth headset market for mono and stereo headsets and hands-free car kit products where the convenience of speech control for small headsets and the safety of complete hands-free control while driving dramatically enhance the users’ experience.

Optima EPS Announces Seismic Cabinet Enclosure for Tight Spaces
Optima EPS, an Elma Company, offers Seismic cabinet enclosures with “French door” style access. The design allows the cabinet to fit in tight spaces. In many cabinet enclosure applications, the racks are placed side-by-side closely together or are located in areas where an opened door would hit other equipment. The M-series cabinet from Optima solves this problem with doors that open outward with hinges justified inward. This allows the cabinet door to open fully in a French door style without the hinges or door interfering with other equipment nearby.
