IBM, ETH Demonstrate New Fabrication Technique for Nanoscale Printing
IBM (NYSE: IBM) researchers in collaboration with scientists from the ETH Zurich have demonstrated a new, efficient and precise technique to “print” at the nanoscale. The method, which allows the scientists to place individual particles precisely where they want them, could advance the development of nanoscale biosensors, ultra-tiny lenses that can bend light inside future optical chips, and the fabrication of nanowires that might be the basis of tomorrow’s computer chips.

Embedded Systems Developers Demand RTOS Source Code
Two-thirds of developers working with embedded systems say that having access to the source code for the Runtime Operating System they’re targeting is either very important or extremely important, according to the most recent Evans Data Embedded System Development survey just released this week. Only 5% say it is not important. In addition, the survey found that over 40% are now targeting Embedded Linux, almost twice as many as target the next leading RTOS’s.

WIN Enterprises Introduces PL-01039 Dual-Core Xeon Security Platform
WIN Enterprises, Inc., a leading designer and manufacturer of embedded controllers and platforms for OEMs, announces the PL-01039, a 1U rack-mount high-performance platform, easily modifiable to support a range of security applications, including IDS/IPS, firewall, VPN gateway, Unified Threat Management (UTM), antispam, and antivirus. The device’s motherboard, the MB-09042, is also available for OEM purchase. These products support single Intel(R) Dual Core(TM) Xeon(R) LV/ULV processors with 667MHz FSB and offer a broad selection of connector cards to meet an OEM’s specific I/O requirements.

X-FAB Improves XH035 .35 Micrometer Analog Mixed-Signal Platform
X-FAB Silicon Foundries, the world’s leading foundry specializing in the production of analog/digital integrated circuits, announced major enhancements to its XH035 0.35 micrometer analog/mixed-signal platform, making it the foundry industry’s first to offer full modularity of digital, analog, high-voltage and embedded non-volatile memory (NVM) features, for maximum cost efficiency. This combination addresses the majority of advanced analog/mixed-signal and high-voltage design needs and, at the same time, provides a cost-effective way for companies to choose only those options that match their specific requirements. It lets them create competitive, smaller-sized designs and reuse their analog IP across different design projects. In addition, X-FAB has enhanced its existing 0.35 micrometer XH035 high-voltage devices to yield lower on-resistance (Ron) at lower mask count, enabling the design of smaller driver chips to serve the growing market of power management applications.

GE Fanuc Embedded Systems Debuts ADEPT5000 Image Processing Subsystem
Leveraging the company’s market leading expertise in video tracking to enable substantially superior situational awareness solutions to be developed, GE Fanuc Embedded Systems announced the ADEPT5000 image processing subsystem. Designed to interface with a wide range of physical sensors, ADEPT5000 is available for both fixed security installations and for military in-vehicle deployment.
