Xilinx AccelDSP, System Generator Improve DSP Performance by 38%
Xilinx, Inc. (Nasdaq: XLNX) announced that its DSP development tools now deliver up to a 38 percent faster Fmax performance for multi-rate DSP designs and improved ease of use. With the release of version 9.2 of the AccelDSP(TM) synthesis tool and System Generator for DSP, the development tool component of the Xilinx(R) XtremeDSP(TM) solution, provides higher-levels of performance as well as a tighter integration between the two tools to simplify the FPGA design flow for developers who use both the MATLAB(R) and Simulink(R) modeling environments concurrently.

Intel Shifts Embedded NOR Flash Memory Products to 65nm Process
To support its embedded technology customers, Intel Corporation (Nasdaq: INTC) announced plans to extend its embedded NOR flash products to the 65-nanometer (nm) generation. According to the company, the move to 65nm process technology will provide price/performance balance and ensure support for extended product life cycles, both important factors to original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) designing for embedded market segments. Intel’s 65nm products, which are typically used in consumer electronics devices, wired communications equipment and industrial applications, are expected to start sampling to customers in the first half of 2008.

Cellular Machine-to-Machine Communications Market to Quadruple
ABI Research forecasts that revenues for cellular M2M communication services will rise from approximately $2 billion in 2006 to more than $8 billion in 2012. A new study by the firm describes a landscape of cellular M2M service providers that shows increasing variety in its business models. Senior analyst Sam Lucero says the research identifies three classes of providers, each offering a different mix of capabilities. “Traditional mobile network operators (MNOs), mobile virtual network operators (MVNOs), and a small number of specialized M2M mobile operators (MMOs) all face specific challenges and opportunities in delivering this emerging technology.”
