STMicroelectronics Unveils STn8811 Nomadik Mobile Multimedia Processor
STMicroelectronics (NYSE: STM) announced an addition to its award-winning1 Nomadik(R) family of mobile multimedia application processors, which builds on the success of the pioneering STn8810 by increasing the speed of its ARM9 core by almost 50%. The new higher-speed core in the STn8811 delivers stunning performance for general-purpose applications running alongside video, music and image processing on smart mobile phones, personal media players (PMPs) and personal navigation devices (PNDs). It joins the STn8810, in providing a low-cost, high-performance solution for cost-sensitive multimedia products.

Fairchild Creates Voltage Translator with Independent-Direction Controls
Fairchild Semiconductor (NYSE: FCS) announces the FXL4TD245, the industry’s first 4-bit, low-voltage dual-supply voltage translator with independent-direction controls. This unique control feature increases design flexibility by allowing designers to control the direction of each bit individually compared to typical configurations that control the direction of bi-directional voltage translators in groups of four, eight or sixteen bits. The FXL4TD245′s wide voltage range of 1.1V to 3.6V simplifies designs and accommodates the voltage requirements of a variety of consumer and industrial applications. In addition, the FXL4TD245′s ultra-compact (2.5mm x 3.5mm) DQFN package provides 65 percent board space savings versus TSSOP packaging, making it ideal for space-constrained ultra-portable, computing and consumer applications.

National Semiconductor Power-Saver Equalizers Out-Perform by 2x
Two new power-saver equalizers from National Semiconductor Corporation (NYSE: NSM) outperform competitive passive equalizers and are more versatile and easier to use than active equalizers. The DS38EP100 power-saver equalizer can equalize 40 inches of FR-4 printed circuit board (PCB) at a data transmission rate of 3.125 Gbps — twice the reach of other passive equalizers.

Xilinx Demonstrates Interoperability of Virtex-5 FPGA with DDR3 SDRAM
