For Sale: Vishay’s Power Control Systems Business
Vishay Intertechnology, Inc. (NYSE:VSH) announced Vishay’s intent to sell the Automotive Modules and Subsystems Business Unit (ASBU) recently acquired from International Rectifier as part of the Power Control Systems (PCS) business. Dr. Felix Zandman, Executive Chairman of the Board and Chief Business Development Officer and Dr. Gerald Paul, President and Chief Executive Officer of Vishay Intertechnology, Inc., stated that after considerable evaluation both before and after the closing of the acquisition it was concluded that the ASBU business would not satisfactorily complement Vishay’s operations.

Demand for iPhone Less than Predicted
Despite all the iPhone hype, newly released Q2 data from the Strategy Analytics ProductTRAX(sm) program indicates that only 250,000 iPhone units were sold to US consumers through the combined AT&T and Apple outlets during the last 2 days of Q2, many fewer than popularly predicted. Additionally, only 146,000 iPhone consumers chose to—or were able to—activate those devices upon purchase.

Exar Unveils Orion Reference Design for T1/E1 Transport Over SONET/SDH

Samsung Develops LCD Panel with DisplayPort Video Interface
Samsung Electronics Co., Ltd., the world’s largest provider of thin-film transistor liquid crystal display (TFT-LCD) panels, announced that it has developed the world’s first LCD panel using the next-generation video interface – “DisplayPort.” Sanctioned by VESA (the Video Electronics Standards Association), DisplayPort will serve as a replacement for DVI, LVDS and eventually VGA.

Synopsys, RV-VLSI Design Center to Develop IC Design Training Programs
Synopsys, Inc., a world leader in semiconductor design software, and RV-VLSI Design Center, a premiere institute providing innovative, advanced VLSI training in India, announced that they are collaborating to develop and deliver specialized IC design content for the purpose of classroom instruction, training, and research to help advance the circuit design and fabrication knowledge of today’s engineering graduates. InRob Tech, Frontline Robotics to Collaborate on Defense Projects
