Renesas Technology Rolls Out 12 New H8SX 32-Bit CISC Microcontrollers
Renesas Technology America, Inc. announced twelve 32-bit devices in the H8SX/1658R, H8SX/1668R, H8SX/1558, and H8SX/1568 groups, expanding the H8SX family of 32-bit CISC (Complex Instruction Set Computer) microcontrollers (MCUs). The new products extend the capabilities of the H8SX product line by offering more on-chip flash memory (up to 1Megabyte), large SRAM (64KB(a)), higher-performance system-connectivity functions such as analog and digital interfaces, and lower power operation. The new devices’ high-throughput operation (up to 50 MIPS) and extensive peripherals are ideal for applications that require reliable system connectivity including office automation equipment and home automation products such as appliances, environmental controls and security systems.
Altera’s Cyclone III FPGA Supports EtherCAT Real-Time Protocol IP
Giving industrial equipment designers greater flexibility in implementing real-time Ethernet communications, Altera Corporation (Nasdaq: ALTR) announced intellectual property (IP) support for the EtherCAT protocol from the EtherCAT Technology Group. Previously qualified on Cyclone(R) II devices, the IP now targets Altera’s new low-cost, low-power Cyclone III FPGAs.
Strategic Test Creates Fastest Digital IO Boards for PCI Express
Strategic Test, one of the world’s leading suppliers of PC-based instrument boards, has announced the industry’s fastest Digital Input/Output boards for PCI Express. With up to 32 channels, recording or replay rates to 125 MHz and the possibility to synchronize up to 127 boards, including Digitizers and Arbitrary Waveform Generators, large mixed-mode Automated Test Systems for electronic sub-assemblies and digital semiconductor components can be created.
Atmel Introduces ATA6836 Low-Cost Half-Bridge Driver IC
Atmel(R) Corporation (Nasdaq: ATML) announced the availability of its new ATA6836 low-cost half-bridge driver IC. As a result of the device’s high voltage capability (up to 40V), the ATA6836 can be used in both passenger car applications (e.g., flap control of air condition systems) and in 24V truck applications. The ATA6836 is manufactured using Atmel’s high-voltage 0.8 um BCD-on-SOI technology (SMARTIS[TM]) and incorporates a broad range of protection features. This manufacturing technology also enables the use of much smaller lower-cost QFN packages, which reduces the cost of automotive comfort applications.
Keithley Instruments Migrates Parametric Test Systems to Linux
Keithley Instruments, Inc. (NYSE:KEI), a leader in solutions for emerging measurement needs, announces a group of enhancements for its S600 Series Parametric Test Systems. The main enhancement is a migration to the Linux Operating System (OS) on the embedded control computer within each test system. This provides a more stable OS and longer service life for the computer, reducing the need for customers to qualify new workstations and upgrade software and hardware resources. In addition, firmware upgrades will provide throughput improvements compared to the earlier UNIX-based systems. A new software licensing method incorporates a hardware key for each tester in the form of a USB Stick, which can be transferred from workstation to workstation for fast repair times.
IDT Pre-Processing Switch Passes RIOLAB DIL-1 Test
RIOLAB[TM], a division of Fabric Embedded Tools Corporation and the world’s only independent RapidIO(R) interoperability testing facility, announced that the Integrated Device Technology (IDT) Pre-Processing Switch (70K2000BR Z0710C) has successfully passed Device Interoperability Level 1 (DIL-1) testing against all other vendor devices in the RIOLAB hardware library.
