Freescale Announces Multi-core Communications Platform
Freescale Semiconductor unveils its new Multi-core Communications Platform, an innovative multi-core architecture that delivers breakthrough efficiencies, performance and scale, while addressing the emerging challenges of multi-core software development. Fundamental to Freescale’s new approach are the power reduction and integration advantages realized by a migration to 45-nm process technology.

Lattice Semiconductor Prices SERDES FPGA Below $10
In conjunction with the production release of the first devices in its acclaimed LatticeECP2M(TM) FPGA family, Lattice Semiconductor Corporation (NASDAQ: LSCC) announced dramatically lower price points for the industry’s first low-cost FPGAs to offer high-speed embedded SERDES I/O. Production volume prices have been reduced to as low as $9.95 for the 20K Look-Up-Table (LUT) LatticeECP2M-20, substantially below those of competitive SERDES-capable FPGAs and cracking the $10.00 price barrier for the first time. When compared to Lattice’s previously announced pricing, these prices represent a price reduction of >20% in less than one year.

Actel Blasts Off to Space with Low-power RTAX-SL FPGA
Extending its low-power offerings to the space community, Actel Corporation (Nasdaq: ACTL) has developed the low-power, radiation-tolerant RTAX-SL field programmable gate array (FPGA) family specifically targeted at high-reliability space- flight designs. The industry’s lowest power programmable logic solution for space applications, the new RTAX-SL family offers approximately 50 percent lower standby current than the leading space FPGA offering at 125 degrees C. The company also announced an extension to its prototyping portfolio for the RTAX-SL, RTAX-S and RTSX-SU families and a new EV production flow, which implements all the steps specified by QML Class V and provides a higher level of testing for its space products.

Altera Rolls Out EP3C120 Cyclone III FPGA
Altera Corporation (Nasdaq: ALTR) announced the shipment of the EP3C120, the largest member of its new low-cost 65-nm Cyclone(R) III FPGA family. Consuming only a fraction of the power needed by other FPGAs of comparable capacity, the EP3C120 is ideal for a broad range of applications requiring both high integration and low power, such as wireless communications infrastructure, software defined radio, and video processing and imaging.

Nallatech Introduces Virtex-5 Rugged Embedded Computing Products

Pentek Unveils Model 6890 Clock, Sync, Gate Distribution Board
Pentek, Inc., a pioneer in VME board-level technology, released its Model 6890, a 2.2 GHz clock, synch and gate distribution board for synchronizing multiple Pentek I/O modules. The Model 6890 facilitates sampling and timing for a wide range of multichannel, high-speed data-acquisition, DSP and software-radio applications. Configured as a 6U VME board, the Model 6890 synchronizes up to eight modules, each receiving a common clock up to 2.2 GHz along with timing signals for synchronizing, triggering and gating functions.
