VDC Expects Virtual System Prototyping, Simulation Tools to Grow
Recently published research by Venture Development Corporation found that virtual system prototyping/simulation tools were the fastest growing segment of the ESL tools market. With the complexity of both hardware and software growing significantly, the challenge of designing and testing software earlier in the design process is becoming an increasingly significant factor, especially in cases where the hardware environment may be extremely complex and/or not yet available. In addition to the continued use of physical prototyping, VDC expects an increased use of virtual prototyping methods as a strategy for developing software more efficiently and validating software/hardware interaction earlier in the design process.
Texas Instruments Lowers BOM by 50% with New VoIP Phone Platform

Wibree Forum to Merge with Bluetooth Special Interest Group
The Bluetooth Special Interest Group (SIG), the more than 8,000-company strong trade association responsible for advancing Bluetooth wireless technology, joined Nokia in announcing that the Wibree Forum, the group specifying the Nokia developed ultra low power wireless technology, will be merged with the Bluetooth SIG.

Acqiris DP1400 Digitizer Maximizes Measurement Throughput
Agilent Technologies Inc. (NYSE:A) introduced its first digitizer from the Acqiris product line. The Acqiris DP1400 high-speed digitizer features a compact design and highly integrated technology for extremely low-power consumption as well as a unique simultaneous multibuffer acquisition and readout (SAR) mode that significantly improves measurement throughput. Agilent acquired Acqiris in November 2006.
TI Creates Location Detection SoC for ZigBee Wireless Sensor Networking
Texas Instruments Incorporated (TI) (NYSE: TXN) introduced the industry’s first System-on-Chip (SoC) solution with a hardware location engine targeting low-power ZigBee(R)/IEEE 802.15.4 wireless sensor networking applications. The CC2431, from the company’s Chipcon product line, targets applications such as asset and equipment tracking, inventory control, patient monitoring, remote controls, security and commissioning networks. The device is supported by TI’s Z-Stack(TM) protocol stack.
Hitachi DesignGauge Links with Synopsys Proteus OPC
Synopsys, Inc. Rockwell Collins Bundles FlexNet Four Radio with PrismTech’s Spectra SDR
Rockwell Collins has announced the introduction of its new Software Defined Radio Software Communications Architecture Waveform Development System (SCA WDS). The offering is made possible through a strategic relationship with PrismTech. Under the terms of the agreement, Rockwell Collins will bundle its FlexNet Four Radio with PrismTech’s Spectra Software Defined Radio (SDR) development products.
