MIPS Technologies, Inc., (NASDAQ: MIPS), a leading provider of industry-standard processor architectures and cores for digital consumer and business applications, announced that EDA industry leaders Cadence Design Systems, Magma Design Automation, Mentor Graphics and Synopsys, Inc. will team with the company to provide EDA software and tools support for its new high-performance MIPS32(R) 74K(TM) core family. Last month, MIPS Technologies announced its next-generation 32-bit processor family—the industry’s first fully synthesizable processors to surpass 1 GHz operating frequencies in TSMC 65nm process technology.

Pro Design, videantis Integrate H.264/AVC on CHIPit Prototyping System
Pro Design and videantis GmbH announced the integration of real-time H.264/AVC baseline profile encoder on a CHIPit Platinum prototyping system. A demonstration can be seen at the 44th Design Automation Conference, Booth 6678. The H.264/AVC video encoder was successfully realized using an MIPS24KEc embedded RISC core and the videantis v-MP2000M video core on the CHIPit Platinum system. At a prototyping system clock speed of 37MHz, the encoder achieves full 15fps in QVGA resolution, suitable for applications like a desktop videophone over internet or handheld media players.

TSMC Includes Mentor’s DFM, DFT Tools in Reference Flow 8
Mentor Graphics Corporation (Nasdaq: MENT) and Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company, Ltd. (TSE: 2330, NYSE: TSM) announced that Mentor’s design-for-manufacturing (DFM) and design-for-test (DFT) tools have been incorporated into TSMC Reference Flow 8.0. The new Reference Flow 8.0 features Mentor tools for critical area analysis and reduction, chemical-mechanical polishing (CMP) analysis and layer planarity control using smart fill algorithms, litho-friendly design, process variability aware analysis, and DFT flows based on Mentor Graphics Calibre(R) and TestKompress(R) solutions. Other Reference Flow 8.0 advances include statistical timing analysis for intra-die variation, automated DFM hot-spot fixing and new dynamic low-power design methodologies.

Agilent Targets Microwave, RF Designers
Agilent Technologies Inc. Ansoft Unveils HFSS v11 for Full-wave Electromagnetic Field Simulation
Ansoft Corporation (NASDAQ:ANST) announces the release of HFSS(TM) v11. This release of Ansoft’s flagship product features new technology that delivers even greater accuracy, capacity and performance than before. HFSS v11 includes new higher-order hierarchical basis functions combined with an iterative solver that provides accurate fields using smaller meshes and thus more efficient solutions for large multi-wavelength structures.
