Cirque Rolls Out GlideSensor Development Kit for Embedded Devices
Cirque Corporation, a wholly owned subsidiary of Alps Electric Co., Ltd. and a leader in the capacitance technology industry, announced the launch of its GlideSensor(R) Development Kit for use in embedded devices. The GlideSensor Development Kit provides a flexible tool set that allows original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) to rapidly design and integrate custom touch input solutions into their latest consumer electronics products. GlideSensor touch sensors may take the form of thin films, flexible or rigid panels, irregular shapes and optically clear Indium Tin Oxide (ITO) panels.
Genesys Testware Adds GUI to ChiptestMaker Embedded Test Tool
Genesys Testware, Inc., a leading supplier of yield, quality and cost optimization tools for nanometer ICs, announced the addition of a graphical user interface (GUI) to its embedded test tool ChiptestMaker(TM). Currently IC designers develop long and complex scripts for their embedded test tools to embed test structures into a System IC. ChiptestMaker(TM) also automates the process of verifying and inserting test structures into an IC design. This process utilizes logic synthesis and digital simulation tools from Cadence, Synopsys and Magma. AMCC Debuts Dual-Core Titan Processor for Embedded Applications
Applied Micro Circuits Corporation (NASDAQ:AMCC), a global leader in embedded Power Architecture(TM) processing, optical transport and storage solutions, is announcing details of its next generation processor core at the In-Stat(R) Spring Processor Forum this week in San Jose. The dual-core Titan, software compatible with AMCC’s PowerPC(TM) 440 family, offers over 8000 Dhrystone 2.1 MIPS at 2GHz while dissipating an incredibly low 2.5 Watts per core.
Mocana Embedded IPsec/IKE Receives VPNC Certification
Mocana, a software company that is enabling a secure networked society, announced that its Embedded IPsec/IKE solution has achieved certification from the Virtual Private Network Consortium (VPNC), including: VPNC Basic Interoperability, AES Interoperability, IKE X.509 Certificate, IKE aggressive mode and for VPN toolkit compliance. Xilinx Virtex-4 FPGA Speeds 3D Imaging by 12x
Xilinx, Inc. (Nasdaq: XLNX), in collaboration with Dimensional Imaging, Ltd., and the FPGA High Performance Computing Alliance (FHPCA), showcased its latest Virtex(TM)-4 FPGA based technology demonstration for high-speed computing. The new technology leverages the high-performance features of Xilinx Virtex-4 devices to accelerate compute-intensive 3D and 4D digital imaging algorithms by up to 12 times, enabling supercomputing performance in a compact platform that communicates with a host PC through a PCI Express(R) interface. Target applications include facial analysis and recognition, biometrics, digital entertainment and advanced orthodontics.
Atmel Creates Customizable Microcontroller-based SoC Platform
Atmel(R) Corporation (Nasdaq: ATML), announced the CAP microcontroller-based system-on-chip (SoC) platform for complex applications that require fast time-to-market. CAP features high-speed local memory, a wide range of industry-standard peripherals and interfaces, and a high-capacity metal programmable (MP) block that allows the designer to add a significant amount of custom logic on-chip. By leveraging the architecture of Atmel’s market-leading ARM(R) AT91SAM microcontrollers, the new CAP metal programmable microcontroller platform enables application-specific products to be developed in a fraction of the time and at a fraction of the cost of a conventional standard-cell or gate array ASIC, but at a unit price close to that of standard-cell devices. Stocks of CAP platforms are held prior to metal layer fabrication, allowing prototypes to be delivered rapidly, and accelerating volume production.
Renesas to Create New Microcontroller Architecture
Renesas Technology Corp. announced that it is in the process of developing a new CPU architecture that will provide revolutionary enhancements over previous-generation microcontrollers (MCUs) in code efficiency(1), processing performance(MIPS/MHz), and power consumption. Based on the new architecture, Renesas will offer two CPUs to address 16- and 32-bit markets, while maintaining compatibility with Renesas’ existing MCUs. The architecture will provide upgrade paths for both markets, delivering a powerful and compelling system solution for Renesas’ MCU customers.
TI Announces 2 New DaVinci DSPs for Multi-Channel Video Security
Continuing to drive innovation in the digital video market with leading-edge silicon, software, tools and support, Texas Instruments Incorporated (TI) (NYSE: TXN) has introduced two new DaVinci(TM) technology- based digital signal processors (DSPs) for multi-channel video security and infrastructure applications, including digital video recorders (DVR), IP video servers, machine vision systems and high-performance imaging applications.
