On2 Technologies Acquires Hantro Products
On2 Technologies, Inc. (AMEX:ONT), a leader in video compression software and solutions, announced that it has entered into a definitive agreement to acquire Finland-based Hantro Products Oy, a market-leading provider of video technology for mobile devices. The acquisition is intended to accelerate the deployment of On2′s technology on semiconductor chipsets that power mobile and embedded devices and to further On2′s strategy for establishing a leadership position in the distribution and consumption of video on all three major device platforms used by consumers: PCs, mobile/portable devices and television.

3G Cellular Machine-To-Machine Communications
Cellular Machine-to-Machine (M2M) communications first started in the era of analog cellular connectivity, and have largely shifted now to 2G GPRS and CDMA connectivity. Certain M2M applications can benefit from the higher data rates than 3G cellular offers, and it is tempting to assume that all M2M communications will be 3G eventually.

Amber Analyzer Boosts Timing Analysis by 100x
CLK Design Automation introduced the Amber(TM) Analyzer, the industry’s first true threaded and incremental static timing and signal integrity (SI) analysis solution. The company’s patent-pending architecture enables the Amber Analyzer to leverage the power of multi-core, multi-processor compute platforms to execute 10 to 20 times faster than conventional tools. The same architecture also enables true incremental analysis for timing and signal integrity. Incremental analysis increases throughput by 100 times or more over existing design flows without any compromise in accuracy.

Magma Improves Physical Verification Technology
Magma(R) Design Automation Inc. (Nasdaq: LAVA), a provider of semiconductor design software, announced significant new enhancements to Quartz(TM) DRC and Quartz LVS that result from the company’s accelerated product development efforts during its recently completed 2007 fiscal year. Magma will demonstrate the new Quartz DRC and Quartz LVS capabilities in booth 4578 at the Design Automation Conference which is held June 3-8 in San Diego.

WiMAX Forum, Informa Announce Global Trade Shows
The WiMAX Forum(R) and Informa Telecoms & Media announced an exclusive agreement to produce a global series of premier trade shows and conferences. The goal of the new events is to foster a hands-on business experience with meaningful networking opportunities to drive worldwide adoption of WiMAX(TM) technology and deliver wireless broadband Internet services anytime, anywhere. The Global Congress series of trade shows is 100 percent owned by the WiMAX Forum and was based upon overwhelming membership interest. The launch of a WiMAX Forum trade show follows the trend whereby not-for-profit industry organizations own their own trade events to better service the needs of their memberships.

NI Debuts PXI Express High-Speed Instruments, 18-Slot Chassis
National Instruments (Nasdaq:NATI) announced the industry’s first PXI Express high-speed instruments as well as the industry’s first 18-slot PXI Express chassis. The new modular instruments include the NI PXIe-5122 100 MS/s, 100 MHz dual-channel digitizer and the NI PXIe-6537 and NI PXIe-6536 50 MHz and 25 MHz 32-channel digital I/O modules. The NI PXIe-1065 18-slot chassis offers up to 1 GB/s per-slot dedicated bandwidth and a combination of both PXI and PXI Express slots. The new PXI Express products are ideal for applications such as signal intelligence, spectral monitoring, semiconductor chip characterization and video test.

Fujitsu Reveals Specs, Schedule for Mobile WiMAX SoC
Fujitsu Microelectronics America, Inc. (FMA), Fujitsu Microelectronics Europe (FME), Fujitsu Microelectronics (Shanghai) Co., Ltd. (FMC), and Fujitsu Microelectronics Asia Pte Ltd. (FMAL) announced the specifications and delivery schedule for the company’s mobile baseband System-on-Chip (SoC), its next wave of innovation in WiMAX silicon solutions. The Fujitsu MB86K21 802.16e will provide substantial speed and performance improvements over comparable market alternatives, at low power consumption in a very compact form factor. The SoC is targeted to be the first in its class to participate in WiMAX Forum Wave 2 certification. Samples will be available in August 2007.

Texas Instruments Unveils New Power Factor Correction Controller
Texas Instruments Incorporated (TI) (NYSE: TXN) introduced the industry’s first single-chip, interleaved, transition-mode power factor correction (PFC) control circuit that helps lower power system cost and save energy in consumer applications, such as digital TVs, personal computers and entry-level server platforms. TI will showcase the controller and other innovative power management technology at the Power Conversion and Intelligent Motion (PCIM) conference in Nuremberg, Germany, May 22-24.

Legend Design Upgrades Memory IP Characterization for 45nm and Below
Legend Design Technology, Inc. announced that its CharFlo-Memory!, an automatic memory characterization tool suite, has been upgraded with new capabilities for the designs of 45nm and below. The new release addresses the power gating, data retention, pin power, multiple voltage supplies, ECSM/CCSM models, efficient layout extraction and circuit simulation. The CharFlo-Memory! tool suite consisting of SpiceCut, MemChar and MSL Manager provides the benefits of accuracy, throughput and automation.

Denali Donates SystemRDL, SPIRIT Consortium Accepts
The SPIRIT Consortium(TM), a global non-profit organization focused on establishing multi-faceted IP/tool integration standards that drive sustainable growth in electronic design, announced the acceptance of a donation of the SystemRDL format from Denali Software, Inc. This donation signifies a plan by The Consortium to extend the set of deliverables to encompass human-readable data formats. Today, The SPIRIT Consortium provides the IP-XACT(TM) specification as a unique way to describe IP meta-data in an XML format for exchange of architectural design data at all points in the front-end design flow.

STARC Selects Common Power Format for PRIDE Reference Design Flow
Cadence Design Systems, Inc. (NASDAQ: CDNS), the leader in global electronic-design innovation, announced that Japan’s Semiconductor Technology Academic Research Center (STARC) has selected Si2′s Common Power Format (CPF) in the development of STARC’s Low Power “PRIDE” reference design flow v1.5. STARC is targeting this low-power flow, for release to its member companies in October 2007, using technologies from the Cadence Logic Design Team Solution as well as the Cadence advanced-verification and digital-implementation solutions.
