Apache Design Offers Power Analysis Technical Webinar
Apache Design Solutions, the leader in power signoff and complete silicon integrity platform solutions for system-on-chip (SoC) designs, announced that the company will present a free online technical webinar on how RedHawk, the industry’s defacto standard in SoC power sign-off, can provide designers with the ability to estimate, analyze, optimize, and validate their power grid design – from floor planning through silicon signoff. RedHawk is a complete SoC power and noise solution that has been adopted as a signoff solution by 80% of the top IDM, fabless semiconductor, and foundries, and is certified by TSMC’s reference flow 7.0.

Broadcom Acquires Octalica, Multimedia Over Coaxial Cable Expertise
Broadcom Corporation (Nasdaq: BRCM), a global leader in semiconductors for wired and wireless communications, announced that it has signed a definitive agreement to acquire Octalica, Inc. Octalica is a privately-held fabless semiconductor company that specializes in the design and development of networking technologies based on the MoCA(TM) (Multimedia over Coax Alliance) standard, which enables distribution of high quality digital multimedia content throughout the home over existing coaxial cable. MoCA has emerged as a popular method for in-home multimedia distribution among cable, satellite and telecommunications service providers in the U.S., making Octalica’s product portfolio a strong complement to Broadcom’s industry leading set-top box and broadband access technologies.

ABI Research Releases Cellular M2M Module Market Study
Manufacturers of the cellular modules at the heart of machine-to-machine (M2M) communications are currently facing an extremely difficult market characterized by increasing commoditization and shrinking gross margins. A new study of this market from ABI Research reports that nearly 18 million cellular modules shipped into M2M applications in 2006, including telematics, telemetry, and Wireless Local Loop, and suggests that this number should grow to roughly 90 million in 2012. Telematics shipments are expected to increase at moderate double-digit growth rates, while both telemetry and WLL shipments should see strong growth in excess of 30% CAGR.

Micron Creates Fastest 1G DDR2 DRAM Chips
Micron Technology, Inc., announced sample availability of the industry’s fastest main memory 1 gigabit (Gb) DDR2 components, capable of running at 1066 megabits per second (Mbps). Used primarily in data-intensive computing applications, such as video editing or high-end gaming, Micron’s new DDR2-1066 memory modules increase user productivity and make images on screen seem more life-like. Micron’s DDR2-1066 memory offers an impressive 33 percent speed improvement over DDR2-800, currently the industry’s fastest DDR2 speed available.

Nokia Licenses Moore Microprocessor Patent
Alliacense announced that Nokia, a world leader in mobile communications, has purchased a Moore Microprocessor Patent(TM) (MMP) Portfolio license from The TPL Group. In becoming the first major mobile handset manufacturer to purchase an MMP Portfolio license, Nokia joins a distinguished roster of 16 other global manufacturers that have become MMP licensees.
