TI Introduces eXpressDSP Digital Media Software Standard
Continuing to simplify development of digital video products with the most comprehensive selection of production-ready software, Texas Instruments Incorporated (TI) (NYSE: TXN) introduced the eXpressDSP(TM) Digital Media Software Standard (xDM), a low-level application programming interface (API) for DSP-based software that provides a framework for seamlessly integrating and exchanging multiple codecs within an application. As an integral part of TI’s offering to digital video developers leveraging DaVinci(TM) technology, xDM compliant codecs of the same class (Video, Imaging, Speech, and Audio) can be exchanged easily with no changes required at the application layer.

BSQUARE Debuts SDIO Hx 1.1 Software Stack for Windows Mobile, CE Devices
BSQUARE (Nasdaq:BSQR) announced the availability of SDIO Hx version 1.1, the newest release of its ultra high-performance software stack for Windows Mobile and Windows(R) CE devices. Version 1.1 features support for next-generation high-capacity memory cards. SDIO Hx version 1.1 is the only software stack with both Windows Mobile and Windows CE support for the new Secure Digital High Capacity (SDHC) standard defining high-performance memory cards from above 2 GB to 32 GB.

WIN Enterprises Unveils Control Board with 6 GbE LAN Ports
WIN Enterprises, Inc., a leading designer and manufacturer of embedded controllers and platforms for OEMs, announces the MB-06067. The MB-06067 is a high performance control board designed for IDS/IPS, firewall, VPN gateway and Unified Threat Management (UTM) applications. The control board uses an Intel Pentium M or Celeron M processor with Intel 852GM express chipset and ICH4 I/O controller. It supports system memory up to 1GB with one DDR memory socket. Both CompactFlash and memory can be replaced. Utilizing either the Intel 82541PI or Intel 82551ER Ethernet controller, the new board supports six GbE Copper or 10/100 LAN ports with optional bypass function on two ports.

ThingMagic Rolls Out Mercury5e Developer Kit for RFID Reader
ThingMagic, Inc., a leading developer of radio frequency identification (RFID) technology, announced details of its Developer Kit for the Mercury5e reader module at the RFID Journal Live! Conference. Tensilica Creates Dolby Digital Plus Decoder with 7.1 Channels
Tensilica(R), Inc. announced that it will deliver a Dolby(R) Digital Plus 7.1-channel decoder designed for HD DVD players, Blu-ray Disc(TM) players, and set-top boxes. Tensilica will also offer a Dolby Digital Plus 5.1-channel decoder/converter to ensure compatibility with most existing home theater systems equipped with coaxial or optical digital audio inputs. These two optimized decoders have been approved by Dolby for use with Tensilica’s popular HiFi 2 Audio Engine for Xtensa(R) processors and the Diamond Standard 330HiFi audio processor core.

Knowles Acoustics introduces an Ultrasonic Acoustic Sensor (UAS) for use as a component to detect/receive ultrasonic sound in air. The Ultrasonic Acoustic Sensor utilizes the latest technology in MEMS (Micro Electro Mechanical Systems) to provide a robust mechanical acoustic sensor which performs over a wide environmental range. Ittiam, TI Announce Codecs for DaVinci Technology
Expanding its portfolio of eXpressDSP(TM) digital media software for rapid product development, Texas Instruments Incorporated (TI) (NYSE:TXN) and Ittiam Systems announced the availability of several audio and video codecs which will be offered through TI’s Authorized Software Providers (ASPs). The new offerings include: H.264 Main Profile (MP) encode, WMV9 MP encode, MPEG-2 encode, MPEG-4 Advanced Simple Profile encode/decode, DivX decode and MP3 encode. These codecs will help developers to balance complexity and performance efficiency, while providing developers with the flexibility to optimize and enhance their video applications, including portable media players, set-top boxes, digital video recorders and high-end video security.

ITT Adopts Xilinx Virtex-II QPro Radiation-Tolerant FPGAs for CrIS
Xilinx, Inc. (Nasdaq: XLNX), announced that ITT Corporation (NYSE: ITT) has adopted Xilinx Virtex(TM)-II QPro(TM) radiation-tolerant field programmable gate arrays (FPGAs) as a key enabling technology for the Cross-track Infrared Sounder (CrIS). As part of the National Polar-orbiting Operational Satellite System (NPOESS) and NPOESS Preparatory Project (NPP), CrIS will collect key atmospheric data to allow for improved calculation of temperature and moisture profiles. Forecasters use this type of data in weather models to improve global weather predictions, storm tracking, and precipitation forecasts. CrIS provides over 50x the number of information channels and enables up to the 3x the accuracy of current systems.

FCC Certifies OEM Components in Parco Precis Location System
Parco Wireless has received notification of an equipment authorization awarded by the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) for the OEM sub-components of the company’s Précis Location system. The Précis System utilizes ultra-wideband pulses to provide reliable precision location, hallway positioning, and general proximity. The system includes Parco’s award winning middleware, software and software developer kit (SDK.)
