Denali Speeds System-On-Chip Verification
Denali Software, Inc., a world-leading provider of electronic design automation (EDA) software and intellectual property (IP), announced the availability of PureSpec(TM) SystemRDL, a verification IP (VIP) product that automates functional verification of configuration registers for system-on-chip (SoC) designs. Configuration registers are used in all semiconductor chips, often numbering in the tens of thousands, to store key data that defines the chip’s operation. Denali’s PureSpec SystemRDL eliminates the tedious and error-prone process of manually verifying register operations, and enables engineers to automate low-level structural testing, generate functional coverage models, and quickly expose potential errors in the SoC design.

AMI Enhances I2C Stepper Motor Driver and Controller IC
AMI Semiconductor (NASDAQ: AMIS), a leading designer and manufacturer of state-of-the-art integrated mixed-signal and structured digital products for the automotive, medical and industrial markets, has announced enhancements to its family of single-chip stepper motor driver and control ICs. New features that further improve design flexibility include a facility for running stepper motors at a continuous velocity and an automatic start function which allows a stepper motor to start automatically when powered up.

EMCORE Acquires Opticomm
EMCORE Corporation (Nasdaq: EMKR), a leading provider of compound semiconductor-based components and subsystems for the broadband, fiber optic, satellite, and solar power markets, announced that it has acquired privately-held Opticomm Corporation of San Diego, California, including its fiber optic video, audio and data networking business, technologies, and intellectual property. The stock purchase transaction closed on Friday, April 13, 2007. EMCORE paid $4 million initial consideration for all of the shares of Opticomm. EMCORE also agreed to an additional earn-out payment based on Opticomm’s 2007 revenues. EMCORE management anticipates that this transaction will provide approximately $7 million of revenue for calendar year 2007, and upon integration will be operationally profitable. In 2006, Opticomm generated profitable revenues of $6.3 million.

MathWorks Streamlines Floating-to-Fixed-Point Conversion
The MathWorks announced the release of Fixed-Point Toolbox 2, which provides enhanced floating-to-fixed-point conversion capabilities and accelerated fixed-point MATLAB(R) algorithms that execute at compiled C-code speed. As a result, design engineers now have a cohesive workflow for optimizing and verifying embedded algorithms entirely within MATLAB, which speeds up design iterations and eliminates translation errors.

Lattice Announces GPON Burst Mode Receiver Reference Design
Lattice Semiconductor Corporation (NASDAQ: LSCC) announced the availability of its PURESPEED(TM) I/O Burst Mode Receiver (BMR) FPGA Reference Design for Gigabit Passive Optical Networks (GPON). This reference design uses Lattice’s unique Adaptive Input Logic (AIL) block found on its LatticeSC(TM) FPGAs and LatticeSCM(TM) FPGAs (collectively, the LatticeSC/M family) to rapidly establish stable clock to data timing relationships within the fast lock times specified in the GPON ITU-T G.984.1 specification, which requires the Optical Line Termination (OLT) to lock to incoming data within 50 bit times.

Synplify DSP ASIC Edition Targets ASIC Designs
Synplicity, Inc., a leading supplier of software for the design and verification of semiconductors, announced the expansion of its ESL software offering. Following the company’s strategy of delivering technology-independent solutions, the new Synplify(R) DSP ASIC Edition software allows users to automatically develop high-quality RTL code from designs specified at the algorithm level for implementation into either an FPGA or ASIC device.

TI Introduces Dual, Quad Analog-to-Digital Converters
Texas Instruments Incorporated (TI) (NYSE: TXN) introduced a new family of two- and four-channel 12- and 14-bit analog-to-digital converters (ADCs) featuring high speed, low power and high performance housed in tiny 9-mm x 9-mm packages. This pin-compatible family offers designers an easy upgrade path with a range of resolutions, speed and performance options tailored to meet the requirements of advanced communications, radar and imaging, test and measurement, medical, and video applications.

DOLPHIN Integration, Lynguent Partner for AMS Modeling
Lynguent(R) Inc. and DOLPHIN Integration SA will integrate their best-in-class modeling and simulation solutions and provide them to designers of analog/mixed-signal (AMS) integrated circuits (ICs). Lynguent’s innovative ModLyng(tm) Integrated Modeling Environment is a unique graphical tool for developing AMS behavioral models. ModLyng will create models tuned for DOLPHIN Integration’s single-kernel SMASH(tm) product for mixed-signal simulation. Developers using SMASH with ModLyng will benefit from accelerated development schedules and the tools’ expert feedback for improvements in behavioral simulation. The integrated tools will expand the deployment of the VHDL-AMS and Verilog-AMS standard hardware description languages (HDLs) supported by ModLyng and SMASH.

Xilinx Unveils Reference Designs for Dual Link HD-SDI, 3G-SDI
Xilinx, Inc. (NASDAQ:XLNX), the world’s leading programmable logic supplier, introduced a suite of new reference designs supporting the Dual Link (SMPTE 372M) and 3G-SDI (SMPTE 424M and SMPTE 425M, level A and level B) serial digital video standards based on Xilinx Virtex(TM)-5 FPGAs leveraging the industry’s first available interoperability platform, the Xilinx ML571 evaluation board. The new reference designs will showcase conversion from Dual Link HD-SDI to 3G-SDI, a 3G-SDI pass through demonstration with frame synchronisation for improved jitter performance, and conversion from 3G-SDI back to Dual Link. Linear Selects Xilinx Virtex-4 SX FPGAs for Digital TV Modulator
Linear Equipamentos Electronicos, S.A., Latin America’s largest provider of TV transmitters, has chosen Xilinx Virtex(TM)-4 SX field programmable gate arrays (FPGAs) to enable its latest Digital TV (DTV) modulator. Leveraging the high-performance DSP capabilities and inherent programmability of the Virtex-4 SX family, Linear has developed the industry’s first modulator for the International System for Digital Television (ISDTV) market allowing customers to quickly adapt to the new and emerging standard. Xilinx, Image Processing Techniques Debut Video Development Platform
Xilinx, Inc. (NASDAQ:XLNX), the world’s leading programmable logic supplier, and Image Processing Techniques, Ltd., a consultancy company specializing in the design and development of equipment for the professional broadcast, post production, and image analysis industries, launched a new Advanced Video Development Platform (AVDP) based on the PCI Express(R) compliant endpoint block embedded in Xilinx Virtex(TM)-5 LXT and SXT FPGAs. Xilinx Creates Reference Design for Video-over-IP, IPTV
Xilinx, Inc. (NASDAQ:XLNX), the world’s leading programmable logic supplier, announced a new reference design for video-over-IP and IPTV applications. This reference design is a highly integrated and cost effective solution for designers in a wide variety of video based applications such as broadcast, video conferencing, CCTV surveillance, wired, and wireless IPTV applications. The solution supports multiple channels in and out, bridging between DVB-ASI and Ethernet IP packets, and forward error correction (FEC) using the ProMPEG Code of Practice 3 (CoP3) – for compressed transport streams and uncompressed SDI video sources. Additional flexibility is provided through a choice of memory and processor configurations to closely match technical requirements. Miranda Selects Xilinx for Kaleido-X Multi-Image Processor
Miranda Technologies, a leading developer and manufacturer of high-performance hardware/software for the television broadcast industry, has successfully deployed its Kaleido-X multi-room, multi-image display processor and router based on Xilinx Virtex(TM)-4 FX FPGAs. Xilinx Rolls Out Virtex-4 FPGA Deserializer Reference Design
Xilinx, Inc. (NASDAQ:XLNX), announced immediate availability of a Virtex(TM)-4 FPGA-based deserializer reference design, application note and evaluation module jointly developed with Texas Instruments. The new reference design, together with the accompanying application note, deserializes data streams from TI’s ADS6000 analog-to-digital converter (ADC) family, providing designers a quick and easy solution with which to deploy products based on the latest advanced ADC device technology. The evaluation module, available through TI (TSW1200EVM), consists of a circuit board and a set of preconfigured design files, which enable designers to prototype and evaluate the performance of the latest high-speed ADCs featuring serialized LVDS outputs.

Microchip Ranks First in 8-bit Microcontroller Revenue
Microchip Technology Inc. (NASDAQ:MCHP), a leading provider of microcontroller and analog semiconductors, has secured the number-one position in worldwide 8-bit microcontroller revenue, according to industry analyst firm Gartner Dataquest’s 2006 rankings. Achieving the number-one ranking in revenue solidifies Microchip’s position as the global market-share leader in 8-bit microcontrollers, having gained the number-one ranking for unit shipments back in 2002. Additionally, Microchip expects to ship its two billionth Flash microcontroller this quarter.

NI LabVIEW Supports Windows Vista
National Instruments (Nasdaq:NATI), a global leader in graphical system design, announced the availability of a new version of LabVIEW, the graphical design platform for test, control and embedded system development, for use with Windows Vista. NI LabVIEW 8.2.1 includes both the desktop development environment as well as related application software including the LabVIEW Real-Time and LabVIEW FPGA modules. NI also released new 32-bit and 64-bit hardware drivers with support for the 32-bit and 64-bit versions of Windows Vista. For the first time, NI is offering PXI embedded controllers with Windows Vista pre-installed as the default operating system.
