IMEC Reveals Details of Wireless Biomedical Monitoring Platforms
IMEC together with its sister company IMEC-Nederland at the Holst Centre realized two new body-monitoring wireless sensor nodes which collect and process data from human body sensors and wirelessly transmit the data to a central monitoring system. The small size and low power consumption of both systems enables non-invasive and ambulatory monitoring of vital body parameters.

ARC Acquires Teja, Multiprocessor Technology, Patents
ARC International (LSE:ARK) announced that it has acquired the key assets of Teja Technologies, Inc., a privately held company based in San Jose, California and a technology leader that develops heterogeneous multiprocessor software. The acquisition includes Teja’s software products, key customer contracts, its engineering team, and patents for Teja’s award-winning technology.

Xilinx Introduces Spartan-DSP
Xilinx, Inc. (NASDAQ: XLNX), introduced the low-cost Spartan(TM)-DSP series with development boards and enhanced design software, significantly expanding its offering of XtremeDSP(TM) solutions and establishing a new price-performance-power triad for digital signal processing (DSP). The Spartan-DSP series provides high DSP performance at the lowest cost points in the FPGA industry, delivering over 20 GMACS for under $30, while consuming up to 50 percent less dynamic power than other high-performance reconfigurable devices for DSP functions at this performance point.

Quantum3D Releases IData 3.0 Human-Machine Interface Tools

Renesas Launches 16-bit Microcontroller with Ethernet Controller
Renesas Technology America, Inc. announced the H8S/2472F, a new member of the popular H8S series that is the company’s first 16-bit microcontroller incorporating an Ethernet controller. The 34-MHz device with built-in flash memory is optimized for use in low-end servers, communications equipment and building automation systems. Besides the Ethernet controller, it offers a comprehensive set of peripheral functions, including a USB peripheral function (with Full-Speed support), I2C bus, and LPC (low pin count) bus, allowing connection to a variety of peripheral systems. Its compact (13mm x 13mm), 176-pin BGA (Ball Grid Array) package allows the design of small, low-power systems.

Renesas, ZMD to Develop 900 MHz Band ZigBee Chipset
Renesas Technology Corp. and ZMD AG announced a joint development agreement enabling Renesas to incorporate ZMD’s RF technology into Renesas microcontrollers (MCU) to develop a 900-MHz band ZigBee(R) chipset. Based on this agreement, the two companies will set up a collaborative development team with the aim of bringing a ZigBee chipset to market. The resulting advanced chipset is expected to accelerate the development of various types of IEEE 802.15.4 and ZigBee systems. The two companies intend to complete the development work in 2008.

Telelogic Debuts Rhapsody 7.1 for Model-Driven Development

Wind River Upgrades Workbench On-Chip Debugging Tools

Aonix to Create Eclipse-based Ada Development Toolkit
Aonix(R), a provider of solutions for safety- and mission-critical applications, announced that it is leading a new Eclipse-based initiative to create an Ada Development Toolkit (ADT) project and will collaborate with the Eclipse Foundation(TM) toward that end. Java with PERC 2x Faster than Java with C
Aonix(R), the provider of the PERC product line for embedded and real-time Java developers, demonstrates that an all Java code solution executing with PERC Ultra and PERC Pico outstrips an equivalent Java program that uses C code for computing-intensive algorithms. The demonstration reveals that low-level Java code executing in the PERC Pico environment runs at a speed comparable to an equivalent low-level C program. In addition, the demonstration shows that PERC Pico provides a 200% performance improvement over C when used in hybrid applications where complex functionality is written with standard Java code and libraries, while high throughput functionality is written in C.

Connect One Releases Socket iWiFi Secure Serial-to-WiFi Module

Toumaz Rolls Out Sensium RF Chip from Infineon’s 130nm RF Process
Toumaz Technology has delivered the first silicon from Infineon Technologies AG’s advanced 130 nanometre RF CMOS process. Toumaz’s integrated Sensium(TM) platform, a new ultra-low power wireless infrastructure system for health and lifestyle monitoring applications, taped-out on Infineon’s specialised process in November 2006. The highly integrated Sensium chip met all the targeted accuracy and performance parameters in initial testing earlier this year.
